Picked up a StarGate today.
Clean inside, it was a home use game for much of its life. Included all the manuals and schematics.

Surprise once I had it open is that the boards are a nice matching set (some damage on the main CPU board due to batt acid). Powers up, get neck glow but has collapse and missing a voltage. Will be fun to try and restore.

Here are some pics of the insides.

Crappy black paint is wiping away with alcohol and a magic eraser. I hope to keep the stencils if I can.

More pics of the general state. Check out the harness tags! SO cool.

Why would someone paint it black and keep the same game?

Sideart looks good enough to keep it that way.

Wow I'm seriously jealous. I'm trying to salvage a beat one. You seem to have a pretty easy project there.

You're full of it.
(excuses that is)
:D

I have no excuse.
(other than already owning a SG)

Still curious as to the find and a story behind it.

His Uncle was an operator and he used to play in somewhere in Ottawa. He asked his Uncle if he could buy it and did for $1200? I think? It was played for ages and eventually ended up in his storage wheil he moved here and here. It has been sitting for 17 years doing nothing and he needed space.

there was an op in the LA area who would take games to super auctions back in the 90's. All of them were painted over black with green specks. They were dedicated. Maybe it was to fit a theme of an arcade or maybe it was to hide minor damage, but it was sad to see dedicated cabs painted up like that.

the good news is it looks like your stargate is cleaning up.

i just noticed the coin box area they pulled the back wood piece out and took a jigsaw and opened up the top.

did he have weed or cash in there ;)

Makes me miss the one I used to have. It was minty and I got a premium price for it, too. Sometimes, the cash just isn't enough, no matter how much.

Also confused on why nice side art was painted over without converting the game. Only think I can think of is if it was converted and somebody tried to convert it back and didn't get the crappy paint off.
