Picked up a Paperboy.

There used to be a time when every part relating to Assault was made out of solid gold. Trends come and go.

While Paperboy panels are very rare loose, there also can't be that many cabinets missing them in the first place, it isn't like Paperboys ever got converted to anything else. People are sitting on spare panels already, those will come to market and drive the price down. The actual real need for paperboy panels (not for spares or upgrades, but actual cabinets missing panels), is probably less than 20 worldwide.

I agree, but then you have all the Championship Sprints that just need a PCB and CP. You can already convert the Champ PCBS to paperboy - so now there is a new market for control panels... I think just about everything is easy to reproduce or has been reproduced excepte the actual handle bar setup, and I think that is the case because you have to weld round angled/bent bars to a flat surface - getting the fab and welding done and at the right angles will be difficult and pricey.

I don't have a control panel to take the measurements from, but I'd be in for getting a quote on doing this. It will not be cheap though....

I do agree with the assessments here, there are not many needed, and it is a trend.

A spike in value of the machines leads to everyone trying to finish their projects at once which leads to an even worse spike in value of the parts.

It may be a trend in terms of popularity, but the market is there if enough people would be willing to buy the parts to
-stash back for someday
-build a new/replica cabinet
-have a Paperboy setup ready to swap into their Champ Sprint cabinet

Also, some will buy it that already have a Paperboy, as the panels sometimes get bend or warped, and the 2 main control metal pieces have welds that break and stop tabs that bend.

Some of my "keepers" I will buy spare components for when they pop up, simply to have them as backup for years down the road when these things are even less available than they are now.
