I've been on the hunt for Killer Instict 1 for years but every one I found was either way overpriced, too far away or converted to KI2. I finally found one at a really good deal. I mean really good deal and it was near me. It played blind and was in great shape. I got it home, and plugged the monitor in cause he had it unplugged. The flyback shot sparks everywhere. Was an awesome light show and it told me right away what the problem was. I replaced the flyback and that took care of the monitor. Great picture btw. However, after playing it for an hour or so the HD started seizing up.. Now it's dead. I ordered a flash kit and that should take care of the problem. Anyways, I don't have any pics to share as of yet but none the less I'm very very happy. I'll share some once I get the flash kit installed so that way I can have some sceenies too. This will go nicely right next to my dedicated MKII cab. Sorry for sounding giddy, i'm just very happy today.

:) :) :) :)

Werent the MK2 and KI1 and 2 cabs pretty much the same midway cabs? I know a KI2 CP will work plug and play on a MK2 cab and vice versa. Just saying you couldve pieced one together and it wouldve been dedicated and just like it came from midway. Cool find though, Ive yet to find one still in tact original.

Killer Instinct... Many people really want that game.
Glad you were able to find one. Nice art but I never could
get into the game play, myself. Can you turn off the advert for
"Coming soon to the Ultra 64" sequence? I remember it
plugging the home version which, as an op, kinda pissed
me off.

I just got another 1994 title last week, coincidentally, this one I've been
looking for, lazily, for over a decade. It just doesn't show up
around here for some reason, had to grab it 500 miles away as
part of a fun road trip.

Needs works (pcb, monitor, gun #1) but cabinet is in 9 out of 10 shape.
Just put 3" industrial wheels on it to bring it to caucasian height. :)

current place in auxiliary game room.

I could of but I was willing to be patiant and wait for a nice dedicated already together setup. Patiance, Lazyness.. IDK, call it what you want. Either way.. all I can say is CCCCCCOMBO BREAKER!!!!!

That's awesome.
Killer Instinct is a great fighter. My favorite behind Mortal Kombat.

Wow I coudn't agree more. My all time fantasy was to have Killer Instinct right next to an MKII. I've finally achieved that little fantasy.

Interesting story behind this KI. The guys house was accross a bridge.. only way in. Some concrete company had the bridge blocked as they were pumping concrete to an empty truck on the other side. Trucks were too heavy to cross the bridge with them being filled. Anyways, they blocked the bridge. We ended dollying this KI machine from his garage, down the road, over the bridge and to my truck.. bizzare.. Pics or it didn't happen? OK, see the pic I took through my dirty ass truck windshield.. lol

No, you can't turn the Ultra64 ad off. Why did it piss you off? The "Ultra64" wasn't yet released when KI was earning big. Then KI was cancelled on the N64 and they released poor versions on SNES and GameBoy. Even if they had released KI for the N64 on schedule it would have been in arcades for a year before the home version came out.

I think it pissed me off more that Nintendo/Rare promised an arcade accurate home version in the future, then delayed the home system it was set to launch with and then cancelled the game on that system entirely. Pissed me off so bad I had to go and buy the real thing.

All that being said, my dedicated Killer Instinct is my favorite machine. Love that Spinal graphic on the side and the black cabinet. Love the game, the characters and story, the music, the whole feel of it. Those Midway cabs are huge and I can fit so many boards in there. I would love to have another as long as it's not MK4 - that one ranks as one of the worst cabinet graphics I have ever seen (with that Uncle Fester / Quan Chi actor).

Glad you were able to pick one up. I've been wanting a KI for a while but they don't come up very often.

hehe killer grail, I get it. :D

Congrats on finding a game that you really wanted.

I was more the MK crowd, even had trophies from tournies. KI was after MK and I just didnt get the whole combo thing which is what KI was based on, then they went and made MK3 sort of the same deal with the combos and then the rest of the fighters that followed suit. After MK3 I couldnt stand fighters though I did enjoy MK3 that was it for me. Had a good friend that liked KI over MK and I was vice versa so I did play a good bit of KI with him but still I just couldnt really get into it like I did MK.

I love my Killer Instinct. I wanted one for years and finally got a GREAT deal a few years ago. Got it from a marine getting sent to another base and couldn't take it. I personally think the "ULTRA 64" ad is part of the nostalgia for me. I was so looking forward to that system and the game. I was pretty bummed when they cancelled it.

KI Gold was a good version of KI2. It changed the backgrounds to 3D but sacrificed alot of frames of animation for the cart format. But still, KI was way better than KI2. I hated that most KI cabs were painted over and converted to the inferior KI2. I do want a dedicated KI2 though....

good to see you achieved that fantasy! some thing i got going on! i need to get a good monitor board into my killer instinct, hmmm i think im gonna go play my mk2/umk3 now ahahah

I have an MK4 and I like it mainly because it is different and I didn't see it in the arcades as much as the others.

Ok, as promised, finally got a pic to show.. With all the damn rain I had to store it in my main garage for now. Can't move it to the game room until the rain dries up some.. I think I got a good purchase for just $300.00 bucks.. Keep in mind the monitor didn't work when I got it and it just played blind. Replaced the flyback and my problem was solved.. Wheeee!!! Just ordered a Marqee to replace the cracked one as well..

it's custom. :) to my understanding, I don't think any of the MK games came with factory move cards. of the Midway fighters, I've only ever seen KI2 come with them.

I custom made my own move cards for KI1, since I operate mine in my family's arcade and the few people that play it need some help. lol

good find, sir. mine was one of the variety that was painted over. I had a bitch of a time trying to get it off with citristrip, I got it about 3/4 done and had to stop cause I ran out of time. (I did this on a saturday morning when we had about 7 or 8 parties in the same day, DOH!) ... might make another pass on it with regular graffiti remover next, might do all that when I replace the broken leg levelers and re-cap my monitor.

speaking of, do your MK2 and KI machines have WG K7000s or Hantarex Polos?

not like it matters anymore since you got all dedicated machines now, but as previously mentioned, the metal control panels are all interchangeable, with exception of MK4's (and possibly other Midway games that came out after it), for whatever reason the latch plates or whatever they're called are mounted further up the CP and don't line up with the wooden box. fortunately, I got my MK4 CP complete with the box, just four 7/16" bolts to take out...

I see your MK2 has what appears to be a Happ Super joystick on player 1. do yourself a major favor and replace all your joysticks with new Happ Competition joysticks, especially on KI. :)

I run all my stuff in a commercial setting, so they all have to be tip-top. if you have any questions about anything just send me a PM. let me know if you want the KI move cards too, I just ran them through a photo printer on gloss paper, thought they came out pretty good.

I also remembered, based off personal preference and because I wanted to contrast with my KI2 cab's red T-molding, I replaced the original black T-molding on my KI1 with blue that I got from Happ (as a business, I get most all of my parts and stuff from them... there's other options out there for personal buyers, ask around) and I thought it complemented the "blue" theme of the game rather well.
