Its a candy cab. Mvs u4/33. It isnt completely original because it has a six slot. I grabbed it for 250. Seemed like a good deal. Even has the original japanese manual and two games (puzzle bobble and some soccer game). Can i use the US mvs carts in it? Also it has room for 3 more buttons on each panel. What would these be for since neo geos only used 4 buttons?

Carts are region independent... You change the language by changing the 40 pin 27C1024 equivalent Mask ROM/EPROM on the motherboard with a different one: English, Spanish, or Japanese.

$250 is a steal! You got one hell of a cheap candy there...

The other 3 buttons would be for fighter games - non Neo Geo.

Relatively new at all of this...so i can add other games (nonmvs)? How would that work? What would i need?

Sorry to break the news to you. But that is not a MVU 33. That is a MVU 29. If it was a 33 2P start would be above the 2P A button. The 33 also has 2 handle cut outs on each side, 4 casters on the bottom and weighs 325 lbs. It's an absolute monster. I have a MVU 2 33. I can post some photos later if you want to compare.

Still a Neo 29 for 250 bucks is a steal. Congrats.

Yes/No.

You can plug in all the MVS cartridges to your heart's desire... but to plug in a JAMMA game into that cab you will need an MVS to JAMMA adapter...

Neo Geo MVS wired boards can be plugged into a JAMMA harness. They will sound funny because you'll only have one channel of the stereo audio.

JAMMA boards CANNOT be plugged into an MVS wired cabinet (which is what you have) without an adapter. You'll burn out the audio output IC because the audio is wired differently in the cab.

With that said, some candy cabs had some different plugs on the harness to allow you to change it over from stereo MVS to standard JAMMA. I don't know if your cab has that or not and will defer to those who know more about that particular cab.

Wouldn't the easiest to spot difference be the 29 inch instead of a monster 33 inch monitor

PS,

Lovely pick-up and congrats on the price !

You could. Japanese measure their monitors differently. The measure edge of glass to edge of glass vs actual viewing area. IE what we would consider 27" they consider 29".

I just mentioned some quick visual differences so he didn't have to bust out a measuring tape.

It is 29 just checked the book. Forgive my ignorance.

i was just going by the picture on hard mvs. Im really happy with this buy. I was offered to buy it 6 or 8 months ago at 700. I told him i wanted to be at 250. Friday i got a txt that he was ready to sell at my price. So if i buy the mvs to jamma adapter it looks like i can run either the mvs or the jamma but not both. Is that right? How would i wire in the extra buttons?

Some basics. That style Neo Geo cab has a monitor that cannot be rotated, so vertical games are a no go.

If you want to run MVS, just leave as is.

To run jamma order one of these (I use them in my Japanese Neo cabs)
http://www.jammaboards.com/store/jamma-to-neogeo-adapter/prod_228.html

You would simply unplug and remove the MVS board. Plug the cab harness to the adapter, and the jamma board to the other end. No messing with any cabinet wiring.

That adapter will support up to 4 button jamma games like avengers in galactic storm. If you want to play 6 button games like capcom fighters I would suggest you get another cab.

However, if you really want to use it for 6 button games I would suggest making a new control panel insert vs drilling the stock one. Basically you would use the adapter, but wire the kick buttons up directly to whatever kick harness you are using. No messing with factory wiring.

Don't need to make a new control panel insert. If you look at the picture you can see each control set already has a spot for three additional buttons.

Same website. But it depends what jamma boards you plan to use. For CPS2/CPS3 order a CPS2 harness, for street fighter 2 order a cps1 harness. Or you can wire in both, just spliced together.

Edit: oh, cool I didn't even notice. Yeah just order 6 new 30mm seimitsu or sanwa buttons depending on what's already there. You'll also have to order some new spade connectors.

Aren't the sticks/buttons installed on a plate that can be unbolted? So you could have different configurations (MVS and Capcom) to swap in without drilling the machine up.

Nice find at that price. I have a Kural 25 that is kind of similar to these.

Oh and where can I get a 6 button kick harness?

It is system dependent. If you want to run CPS-1 SF2's, then there is a CPS-1 harness. If you wanna play CPS-2 and 3, they utilize a different kick harness.

You can find them almost anywhere as they are a dime to dozen. I'm sure someone here would be willing to sell one to you.

. I do not need to drill up the machine. The button holes are already there.
