A couple of weeks ago my buddy who is an arcade operator told me he had just bought another operator's route in town. Among the gems he got in the buy was this monster, which I had to take off his hands.

The medium res monitor is nice and bright. Everything looks really sharp. The only issue is a bit of burn in where the "Insert Coin" prompt comes up, but you can't see it when the game is on.

The one thing that really surprised me is the artwork. All of it is intact aside from a tiny scuff on the control panel. There's zero sunfade too. Honestly, I'd be surprised if this machine had been moved off of this location before.

My only gripe, and it's a small one, is that there's only one original Sega gun. The other is a Happ 45, but both are very accurate. Down the road I might grab another Sega gun, but for the time being I'm happy. Also, the marquee light is burnt out, but a quick trip to the hardware store will have that taken care of.

Overall, not a bad haul.

Nice, would like to have one of these someday. My local arcade at the Great Mall has this and i have to stop by and throw some quarters at it from time to time.

I love this cab. Mine is pretty much exactly the same condition as yours. Nice side art, insert coin burn in but nice crisp monitor. It also came with the marquee light not working lol

Good score. How much did you pay?

lol, that's so strange. Freaking hilarious.

I paid $600 for the cabinet. Not a bad price in my opinion considering the condition, the medium res monitor, and one Sega gun.

Happ guns are more accurate... who would have known. The adaptor for it is a simple molex adaptor.

Red Happ guns can be found for cheap. Sega ones... not so

I myself prefer original guns but not really at the sacrifice for performance.

Not bad. House of the Dead is one of the highest grossing arcade games of all time and still has value to operators. It's still earning money in arcades and I think is still in Replay Magazine's current top 10 earning games. I could see how an operator would want $600 for it based on its earning potential.

It would be cool to collect all four games in the series.

That generation Sega gun is not too expensive and you should be able to find one for a decent price. It's the gun that came after (used in games like HOD 2 and Jurassic Park) that is ridiculously over-priced.

what kills me is that there was a minty 9/10 HOTD2 FS at CAX this year and it sold for $300 instead of the $400 it was listed at.

I would have gotten it if it wasn't a space on the truck issue.

I though it would have been free, or close since he was an arcade operator, and your buddy.

In a perfect world, sure. I was more than happy to pay what he was asking though, as it was significantly less than his retail price.

I've actually debated on hunting down a HOTD2 or HOTD3 next, though honestly I think at seven cabinets I'm ready to move on to getting a pinball or pool table before my next cabinet purchase. However, you know how this hobby works, it's easy to say that and then buy another cab the next chance you get.

I do definitely plan on adding another HOTD to the library eventually though.

$300 for a HOTD2 is a steal. I would've drug that thing home on my back if I found a deal like that.

I am pretty sure the arcade collector from Chowchilla got that HOD 2.

I've seen it for that price a few times. Usually not as good of shape though. There was a HOD III for sale around here for under $1000 last year. Someone gave away a HOD 4 on here a while back but it needed the gun$$$$.

In my opinion the gun game with the most replay value is Jurassic Park. The dinosaur theme never gets old and I have never been able to accomplish every goal in a single game. I have never been able to save the guy on the motorcycle...every time i have a party at my arcade this game gets the most play out of anything. Kids love the theme. Plus this game is still in arcades all these years later and still earns money.

Great buy! I think this is the HOD to get, it was never translated well to home consoles and is a really fun shooter. I think it is very uncommon to find one with the stickers completely intact. I would not worry too much about the HAPP gun, no one else will likely notice.

Most of these original cabinets of this particular style USUALLY have messed up artwork (and even plastic damage) on the area between the gun holsters and the monitor. You should be glad that you found one in such good shape. It's too bad that there was never a good home conversion of this game (like on the wii with 2 & 3), which makes the original arcade version the way to go. I'm sure it will get plenty of play.

Tell you what, though... The COOLEST HOTD game, BY FAR, is the ultra deluxe theater version of #4. Although it is a "compressed" version of the game, spanning only a couple or few levels from the regular model, the experience is simply awesome. You sit inside a moving car that rotates and switches between different video projection screens both in front of and behind you. It also blows compressed air in your face which is co-ordinated with the gameplay events (such as when a large enemy "surprises" you). I have only seen/played one of them, and that was at the Gameworks in Las Vegas. Although I don't think it is quite as monstrous as a Galaxian 3 theater setup, it's still pretty large...

to make happ guns sting less, could go for the universal ones with recoil in em..

Those are very nice looking, though I'll hold off. 300 smackers for guns is a bit steep.

Yeah, it's always been a personal favorite of mine. I've got a ton of fond memories of blasting through this and Time Crisis 2 as a teenager. I'm actually growing pretty fond of the Happ gun. It feels more balanced and solid than the Sega one.

Great game, I have one just like yours but with happ guns!!! Kids love to play it

Awesome man. My son loves the game as well. Nothing like slaying zombies with the whole family.

Yeah, I feel I lucked out getting one in this condition. I just now noticed I'm missing a bit of white molding on the left side of the CP, another small but easy fix.

That deluxe model HOTD 4 sounds amazing. I'd love to check that out some day.
