I got a call at the end of the work day yesterday from a high school friend who I only talk to every couple years. He says he passed by a cabinet on the side of the road and knew I was into collecting them so he thought he'd call me. He went back to see what it was, and it was a Satan's Hollow, and the people at the house say it works and it's free. It happens to be right off the highway on my way home from work. It's 40 mins away, but I get there in 30. The lady says it's free, take it, we don't want it. I don't ask any questions, thank her, and we load it into my brother's truck and take it to my house. It fires up, but the screen is garbled. I look in the back and see the MCR power board with a battery still on it. Swapped in Tron's power board to test it, and the game plays fine. I removed the battery from the original power board and soldered in a new jumper that had corroded away, but no change - guess I'll get the rebuild kit from Bob Roberts. Some burn on the monitor, but not bad. I would have put this right in my gameroom, but I think I want to replace the bottom of the cabinet as it had buckled where one of the leg levelers were.
It doesn't get much better than free, almost working, and on the way home from work.
Oh yeah, and we got about 10 inches of rain last night so this thing would have been toast if I didn't get to it.
