Picked up a Battlezone

Imreally not sure how bright the CRT should be. It has seemed dim to me but I am not sure if that had anything to do with the bad diode or the crumby caps in the deflection board.

judging your video id say it looks fine. make sure to play with both brightness and contrast. i myself put contrast most of the way up and then adjust the brightness until blank disappears

The exposure of the camera lot brighter in the video than in real life. For example you can't see the Z blanking.

i see. i just try to avoid a rejuve as long as possible as it shortens the life of the tube. but if it needs it so be it

in other words its better to make sure the pcbs are fully working than to jump straight to a rejuve. and if are sure they are ......

Oh, I wasn't going to rejuvenate it, just do the cutoff, emission, and life tests to get a baseline of where it is at.

Yes, the Jochen Hippel HSS kit adds sounds for attract mode. I find it annoying. I prefer the Braze kit for these.

They can be disabled. See the manual. You have to hold start and fire while powering on I think, to enter the kit's test menu.

Have you cleaned the mirror as yet? That gets dirty and reduces the vector glow. (The mirror has an orientation, so remember which side is up when replacing back into the cabinet). Dirty mirrors seem to be reported more on Asteroids Deluxe than BattleZone for some reason. LOL

And yes, testing good, rejuvin' bad.

Yeah. One of the first things I did. Pulled it out and used methanol to clean.

My mirror is out of the cab at the moment... is there a good way to determine the orientation before reinstalling? Of course it is a 50/50 shot at getting right the first try, but I am curious to know.

The first surface toward the player, that is the side that is silvered. Otherwise you will get a double reflection.

you don't often hear people say they have methanol laying around. i use methanol to clean pcbs myself. so random unrelated question do you have a race car?

We use methanol at work for cleaning laser optics. At home I bought a 5 gallon bucket in an attempt to remove the liner from my motorcycle tank. It did not work which means I need to go to something more aggressive. Probably MEK.

Wow... you just seem to have all the cool toys in your secret Lab-or-a-tory....

Methanol(and I'd wager various other volatile liquids) lasers, x-ray machines, cool media blasters, thermal cameras, etc....

probably even have one of them tables with the lightning rod on the roof and all them big dials and gauges for reviving patchwork monsters....

But wait a minute....

No....

Rock....

Tumbler......

Well, never mind...

I was gonna see if I could come over and play... but your not that cool after all...

All the cool kids have rock tumblers these days

D

High vacuum coating systems, scanning electron microscope with energy dispersive x-ray spectrometry, focused ion beam milling machine, optical spectrometers, tig welder, plasma cutter, bandsaws, cnc mil, lathe. electronics bench. I could go on. I have a rock tumbler at my sisters house. But it's big and my niece is using it. Lol

Attaching the new step tread. I used some contact adhesive called Cole de cologne. Bought it for another use but I wasn't thrilled how it worked. Should be fine for this. It is often used by people that work with leather.

Can't have too many clamps!

The step came out nice. Got some metal coin return bezels from John's Jukes that arrived this morning. Need to scrounge up a couple coins flaps. Or does anyone have any drawings and I can laser cut a couple?

HV diode has been shipped too.

What do you do for work with lasers?

Im a test engineer for a company that makes laser micro machining systems for drilling micro vias in PCBs, also machines that do flex pcb stuff. We can drill 9000 vias per second. New machines even faster. I dont mess with lasers much at work any more. I do at home though, lol.

Oh, I have solidworks and NX so that's not the issue.
