Picked up _some_ of a Killer Instict today...

Long story short, saved what is left of this Killer Instinct from a guy at work. Nice guy, but he didn't know what he was doing and got the KI so he could MAME it. So here is the current state of this game...

Monitor was too red so he pulled it out and threw it away.

He cut the rear door opening to be a little taller not knowing you could pull the monitor out the front.

He hacked in an IPAC board by cutting the harness.

The art and what is left of the cabinet actually look pretty good.

There is a working KI board with a CF card mod, switcher, and a power block.

I have never played KI and generally don't play fighting games, so is KI the one fighter to have? Should I just trade what I have to someone that really wants a KI? Should I just complete the MAME'ing at this point?

Fixing the harneress would be tedious, but I can do that. Cleaning up the back door cut and making a new door would not be a problem either. Anyway, let me know what you guys think....

That will always be one of my favorite cabinets. That and Orchid on KI2...

I'm an old school guy but I enjoyed KI Gold on the Nintendo 64, so I also enjoy KI & KI2. If you;re not into fighters, I guarantee you can find someone who wants it...

Good cabinet. The fact that there is no monitor sucks, though. Do you have one to put in it? If so, I would get it back to playing KI. I think they are worth decent money if you don't like it.

At least it was just the back of the cabinet he hacked up. If you are going to go ahead and MAME it you should be able to get $200-$250 for the board and drive to finance it, and then just play KI in MAME.

It is THE fighter for me, but I'm in the minority on that one for sure. Put a decent computer in it and you can play all the fighters and decide for yourself.

In my opinion KI is one of the best fighting games. Not much good can be said about KI 2 though.

Well, that is assuming that it just didn't need to be adjusted. It really is sad to think that 25" monitor went in the trash for no reason.

Thanks for all of the feedback guys. Sounds like I should fix the harness and hookup a monitor to see how much I like the game. Don't have a 25" monitor for it which sucks, but if I like it, then tracking one down would be an option. Worst case I can trade it with a working harness too. Sounds like there is enough love for the game, someone will want it if I don't.

If you have a nintendo 64 then you can play the game that way. If you do end up parting it out then let me know a price on the cabinet.

I'm not seeing a PCB cooling fan in that cab anywhere, If you get this board running don't run it without a cooling fan. That is one of the reasons these board die alot. Fans burn out and they overheat easy..

The guy I got it from mentioned the fan. I think that got lost in his MAME efforts. I'm going to have to dig up some pictures of the inside of a complete game to see what else is wrong/missing.

Not MK (it's a little different in the front) but MKII, MK3, MK4, Mace, War Gods, Skins Game and a few others.
