I just bought a Phoenix arcade game by Centurin. It works great except there is no melody when you start the game (Beethoven Music). There is also no sound at all when it plays in attact mode. Is this normal? I can not remember if attract mode was silent on this game. I know on other versions of the game you use dip switch 7 to turn sound affects on and off in attract mode. The manual for Phoenix says that switch is reserved for factory use only. I am going to swap out the MN6221aa melody chip to see if it fixes the intro music problem. Any other suggestions?

As to the music at game start. Yeah, the melody chip covers that, and only that (sound) if I recall correctly. At least check the socket. The Phoenix boards I have had it socketed. Its been a LONG time since I have looked at a schematic so I can not recall what else is in that section of the board. I want to say there are a couple of easily discernible sound producing sections that eventually get crushed together before the amp. I don't recall any other off the wall parts so everything else should be easy to test.

As to attract mode. Mine does not have sounds in attract. Since I prefer my games that way I never looked to see if there was a way to turn sound on.
