I bought a lot of games that some needed fixing. The only one that I need to fix right now is my phoenix that I've been looking for... anyway.. I get the correct voltages where they need to be but I'm getting jiberish across the screen and a single tone out of the speaker like it is stuck. Sometimes the start screen fires up, the sound works correctly and then I loose it. I've cleaned the end contact and made sure that the chips were pushed in and removed and put back the ribbon connector making sure it was seated all the way. What am I missing? Should I remove and reseat the chips? Any help would be great as this is one of my grails and it's killing me not being able to play.

Thanks in advance

Provided that the power supply output is clean and you have a good +5v source, check the legs on the ROMs for corrosion/rot...

Test the SRAMs and the EPROMs to make sure they are good.

Beyond that you're looking at things such as bad sockets...

I'm going to check the power at the board because I was checking it at the power supply...I know I just wasn't thinking. Next remove the chips clean and reseat and we'll see what happens. Thanks for the info.

I recently got one working that had a similar issue - gibberish and a constant sound. Replacing the 8085 fixed this one...

The one I bought only had a minor issue with a cap and sound issue. Replaced the volume pot with 5k from rat shack and the cap near the edge connector. Works fine now.
