Phoenix board with no music, board has no markings... bootleg?

I have a spare Phoenix board set with absolutely no labeling of any kind as to mfg or serial, etc... The pertinent dips seem to work giving all expected options and (other than different style resistors, etc...) seems to match the other board I have component for component. (my other board has a Centuri label and a serial # label).

I suppose the labels could have come off at some point. Is it possible this is a bootleg or is it more likely I've just lost the labels. Also, there is no music at the beginning of each player's gamestart but there is music on my currently installed board. Is there a rom that I may want to check for this?

Phoenix uses an odd melody chip: MN6221AA

See if it's not on the bootleg board or if it's bad.

Channelmanic... good call. I moved the known good melody chip to the board with no melody and the music started.. so I have a bad chip. Any thoughts on aquiring one? Also, does anyone know what I might want to look at to eliminate a slight "snow" effect that occurs every so often. Kinda looks like static on the screen. It's not too bad, but I wouldn't want it to get worse.

Thanks

Despite it seeming to make no sense, I've seen it happen occasionally when voltages are off in the direction of too high. More obvious one (and you've probably done this) with an intermittent video issue is making sure the connections going to the monitor are well-seated. Could be connected but barely so occasionally getting something iffy, could be a wire that's got a conductor in the process of breaking down if it's been bent a bunch. Possibly neither, but that'd be my first instinct with that kind of thing.

ChannelManic:
Thank you.

Thanks for the response. And never assume :) I'm new to this so all tips are good. I will check the connections. It "shouldn't" be a monitor issue as I can swap the two boards I have and the snow effect only happens with one of them, but it can't hurt to check (unless i lean on the flyback).

Bullwinkle, post this on the coinop NE board if you're going to the funspot event. You might be able to get one of the jedis (Mark, Rob, Adam or Matt) to burn you a copy if they are headed that way.
