The music on my centuri phoenix is scratchy and just weak sounding, but everything else works great.
Does anyone know where to check for that?
I couldn't find much if anything online about audio issues on this game.

The music chip commonly goes bad on these. I'm not sure if that's a symptom of a music chip going bad. If I had to guess I'd guess it's not the chip, but I figured it's worth a mention just in case. In my case the music just didn't work at all. They're obsolete chips but I bought a replacement a few years ago from arcadechips.com and that solved my problem. Good luck!

Do you mean ALL the sound is scratchy including shots and explostion? Or JUST the music (that plays at the beginning and after killing the mothership)?
