I have a Peter Chou power supply in my cab. If I unplug the connector, plug the power supply into the wall and switch the power on should I be able to read the DC voltages at the connector? I guess my question is the power supply isn't only outputting the DC voltages when it is plugged into the PCB correct? Because I am getting no +5, -5 or +12 VDC when I have the power supply on.

Switching power supplies like this need a load to turn on. Cut power to the supply and connect a 5W, 180-ohm (or similar) resistor across the +5V and GND output terminals. Apply power to the supply's input while the resistor is connected and you should see output voltages.

Thank you, this is exactly what I was wondering about.
 
What am I missing here? It looks like a standard power supply. You should be able to unplug the connector and measure your voltage with no load. If it has an on off switch, make sure it's pressed in.

I am getting no dc voltage when I do that.
 
And the reason is you have a computer type. It must have a load on it, or it won't power up.
 
I guess I just never came across a bad computer style type that needed a load to get readings. Disregard everything I said in my previous post.
 
Thanks for the help everyone. I have fixed it. The issue ended up being a resistor that tested open, R6. Replaced it and I am back up running.

that thing is over 30 years old. the cost of the cap kit you could probably just buy a whole new one. I was brought up to not bother trying to fix those, just replace.
