Ok, it has come time for me to post this prob here cause I am stuck...

The game plays, but the cars and signs are missing when they are out in front of me. When they are along side of me, they re-appear. Also, the size of all the cars is distorted somewhat - they are wider and you can't really make out the helmets.

Here are two pics

As you can see, even the "Start" banner is only but a few lines..

This glitch makes the game extremely hard to play, since not only is your car wider, but you can't see the traffic until they are next to you!!!! LOL. Hence the crappy high score...

So far I have replaced eproms at 11N, 12N and 13N with brand new chips and there is no change whatsoever..

I have cleaned all the connectors/ edges, pulled, polished and re seated every socketed chip on the video board and checked voltages. I figured the voltages are ok since I can run PPII boards in this cab all day long.

Any other suggestions?

FYI, I have had this game for nearly 10 years with nary a problem until this arose about a year ago.. :-(

Start by reading page 23 of the manual. It gives locations of the proms and custom ic's which generate the cars and signs. if you dont have a manual you can grab a pdf version from mikes arcade.

Yes, I have studied that part of the manual for sure. So I just swapped out 12H with a new one from HobbyRoms, no change. Then I swapped 12J, 13J and 13H with known working chips from my PPII board. Still no change.

This basically leaves the two RAM chips at 9F and 10F, and they are soldered in so I am not going to pull those from my PPII boards....

The guy at HobbyRoms said he could not program the RAM chips. Anyone know someone who can?

You need to do some swapping in these areas, 12K 13K 12L 13L and this 12H 11N because your cars don't look right either.

According to the manual, 12K, 13K, 12L, 13L are just for the signs. I have swapped out 11N, 12H and 13H. It has to be either 9F or 10F, and if RAM can't be programmed, well then......

Luckily, tonight I secured about 9 PP and PPII board sets. I will find the answer..

I wish I could pull 9 boardsets out of thin air like that. I dont get how you guys do that! I would LOVE to stumble upon a pile o' boards here or there...

My last "personal" haul was from a guy on CL saying he had some free monitors... I got to his house, ended up with a Vs boardset, Super Cobra boards, Vanguard boards, Crime City board, 2 sets of Pole Position boards, 200lbs of marquees/bezels, some CPs, wire'ng harnesses, half a dozen ISOs, and I can't even remember what else. Most was junk... but still... for free, can't complain.

The deals are out there, you just have to lucky and faaaaast...

Oh yeah... topic. Sounds like a weak socket. I had a board for PP that (before it failed the stress test) would have issues with signs and the blimp, and the car... etc etc. When I would flick the EPROMs the graphics would come back.

Yes, I do plan on getting a hold of Dick here soon, but I want the satisfaction of fixing THIS board! I will pick the other boards up tomorrow. I should be able to make at least a couple PPII/PPI working boardsets to pass along, while keeping some too..

It was luck that I found them, as I was there to look at a couple other games...

Well I can try the flick test, but this board is pretty solid. In fact, once sorted, this flippin board will be sweet with all new video eproms!
