People who buy Craigslist games to resell the next day on Craigslist

This is an annoyance of mine. Yesterday someone listed an Asteroids Deluxe for $100 and today the same game was relisted for $400:

That Q-Bert was also listed yesterday for $200.

Another is this Kid Niki game that was going for $150, this person now believes it is worth $400:

I understand we have free market economics and they have every right to do it, but do people think that most people are really so stupid not to connect the dots, especially when the old ad is still up? I am seeing this more and more with people buying to resell instead of collect.

Pickers are pretty annoying, yes, but unfortunately your choices are to:

be quicker than them;
choose not to support their practice and miss out on games;
cave in and just buy the stupid games if you want them that badly.

This one sounds especially annoying though as it sounds like they are buying up every cheap game that pops up on CL in your area. And they are smart enough to not try to get ridiculous prices, so they're probably making out well. :/

Those went back up quick!! Funny that the seller would'nt answer any messages yesterday. The prices are still somewhat reasonable but still pretty dumb to resell on the same site the next day. I would have taken them and listed them on EBay to make even more money than what he's asking. That Kid Niki has been listed since the end of last summer.

I guarantee it is a KLOVer.

I emailed about the QBert too but never heard back.

At least wait a few weeks before you try and pull off the switcheroo!

I really don't see a problem with buying and flipping anything on Craigslist or eBay for a profit. In any hobby, people have a wide range of disposable income to spend and many people fund their collections by flipping for a profit.

For whatever reason, it seems like if person considers something a hobby they tend to frown upon others who profit from that hobby. While that is not a hard and fast rule, I have seen it across several of my hobbies.

At some point, you just have to focus on the things you can control otherwise stuff like this will drive you nuts and take the fun out of the hobby.

It sucks to be the one who missed out on that stuff but in all honesty what someone paid shouldn't matter what they sell it for. I buy things to resell often, not arcade games but almost anything I can make a few bucks on.

Go ahead and offer a little more over the asking price immediately if it's a game you really want.

How do you know for sure that it's the same game? Or maybe even the original seller realizing he could have gotten more and then re-listing the game at a higher price with a different pic? Either way, I don't see it as a problem but I realize it bothers people. I've done it and gotten people upset at me before.....some who will still barely talk to me on this board because of it. I don't really do stuff like that much any more but I don't see a problem with it. I always wondered what the proper waiting period should be for reselling. If I hang onto it for a year first and then sell it, it seems to be ok with people. What about 6 months then?

Craigslist...

If the ad was up 2:45 and you responded 4:25 you are def too late. You need a smartphone craigslist app to notify you when ads for games are posted. Here in the Philly area we are all jumping on top of each other to grab games the second they are posted.

Nothing wrong with flipping the games at all. I'd buy an Asteroids Deluxe for $100 and resell it all day long - after I cleaned it up and made sure it all worked properly. I would offer it to klover's first and for less then I'd put it back on craigslist for.

I'd buy the Qbert for $200, thank the gods for the gift and keep it (I'd also do that for $400!). Also whatever profit I'd make on the Asteroids Deluxe would go toward covering my Qbert costs. This is part of the fun, keeps me collecting and keeps my wife from killing me!

Does it suck if you see a game you want for yourself get flipped? Sure does. Still nothing you can do but be faster on the draw. I lose out on stuff all the time but I win out a lot too.

I have never viewed this as a money making hobby, nor have I ever tried to fund the hobby with any hobby related activity. Heck, I haven't even sold a game to date (only traded one). But if someone wants to make money on this hobby via flipping or other means, more power to you. I don't have a problem with flippers, other than that it might mean I've missed out on a deal I might have been interested in.

Who the hell is awake at 3 in the morning and ready to pick up a cabinet?

Silly... that's what the craigslist app is for - to wake you up at 3am so you can hit the road and pick up a game! ;)

I don't normally get into any kind of debates, but even though it sucks that you didn't get it, he still has the right to flip the game if he wants. It could be the same day or months later it really doesn't matter. I think 99% of klover do or would do the same thing. Its just goes with the hobby. I also would of like to get all those games since it was 15 minutes from me, but I wasn't the one to get it. I'm also glad I didn't so it shows people I don't buy up everything on craigslist. You have to admit if a Star Wars popped up for $100 and your weren't a Star Wars fan, you can honestly say you wouldn't buy it anyways then resell it. And when you went to resell it would you sell it for $100? I buy games from craigslist from time to time, but most of my games come from operators and people out of state. I fixed them up and resell them all the time. That money just gets recycled in this hobby.

Ive done it,I bought a Q*bert for $125 and sold it for $500 but most of the time i dont make more than $50bucks or so. Its a way to keep money in my pocket for other games since my wife thinks im crazy for spending $500 on an antiquated game anyways.I never touch our family funds for this hobby.
