...I just didn't realize it would happen so quickly.

I'm seriously considering hocking all of my vids and changing over to pins...

I can't believe I'm saying that... but seriously they are sooooo much cooler and way way more fun!

I'm not going to do anything just yet... I'm still in that "emotional" stage... you all know what I'm talking about ;)

Keep a few vids, but I've severely downsized my vids to make room for pins. I had around 25 video games and I'm down to 9 now. Pinball machines took their place.

Pins over vids?

Yeah, I'm with Sonny on this one. ;)

But hey - it's your enjoyment that matters, collect what you like! ;) I never played pinballs BITD, which is probably why I'm not as interested in them...

yeah... in reality I may never be able to switch over 100% but I think I could come close... we'll see if the newness wears off. I've got 3 pins in the house now I'm working on and really having a great time with it.

Ha ha what did i tell you !

HA HA WHAT DID I TELL YOU I KNOW ! pins are like lay's potato chips you just cant have one.

I love video games, but a good pinball game or 5 or 6 or 10 has way more appeal for me as well. They don't get "old" as quick. They're way more fun to work on as well. There are only a handful of dedicated video cabs I'd really want if I had room. But there's 100's of pinballs I'd want to own :)

HAHA.... yep. Welcome to the darkside :)

I had a huge collection of video games, and now I have 3 (Asteroids Deluxe, Millipede, and a BurgerTime multi). I also currently have 5 awesome, fun pins. You won't miss half your video collection. You can easily get back the video titles you do miss and it's even easier nowadays with how cheap they are.

I got rid of the following vids...

-Star Wars
-Xenophobe
-Dragon's Lair
-Operation Wolf
-Toobin'
-Joust
-Double Dragon

...to make funds/room for the following pins...

-Freddy: A Nightmare on Elm Street
-Mary Shelley's Frankenstein
-The Simpsons (Data East)
-Jurassic Park

...and I don't really miss 'em a damn bit.

Happened to me.

I had a few dedicated cab vids. Asteroids II,Tetris, and Golden Tee. I got the idea to build a nice MAME system and used the Golden Tee as the donor game. Sold the other two and enjoyed the MAME system. The only problem was I was the only one using the MAME.

I sold the MAME to a friend and replaced that with a Megatouch Force. It gets played anytime its on by anyone that passes by and has hands.

As far as my pins go I have 9 machine now with a 10th coming that I traded another vid for.
I still like some specific vids but pins are an entirely different animal with noting else close to the same game play.

Vids meant everything to me as a kid, so that's definitely where my nostalgia is...I did enjoy pinball in the late 80's and 90's...played F-14, Elvira, Addams, T2, STTNG ...I played pins pretty casually...I didn't know there were rules and strategies. That's what I've learned over the past few years! Now that I know what I know, pinball gameplay is actually very video-gamey...goals, levels, bosses, etc ...but it's just much more fun and always different. I love Pac-Man and all the classics...but they're pretty much the same every time, and the truth is I'm still only just as good at them as when I was 7 years old (hey, I think I was pretty damn good for a 7 year old!) ...my vid skills "are where they are" ...pins, I think I keep improving and learning new things, so it's still fresh and exciting.

I still have some vids, but they've been "banished" to the garage...I'm pretty happy w/ the ones I still have, although I'm sure I'll sell Popeye, maybe even Pac-Mania (even though it's my 2nd...I should just keep it...hehe) However, I'm at my limit for pins in the house...and I've got 4 in the garage that I don't necessarily want to sell once I fix them up...

Pins took over my gameroom but I do have a few arcades that I like to play.People look at the arcade games and say cool but they always want to play pinball.

I put soooo much time into my vids making them as near perfect as possible. There is no way I could ever go through it for the same game twice (if I decided down the road to re-acquire games that I would give up)...so I think it would be hard parting with them all. I already sold my DK2 for a Fish Tales... but selling my StarWars with new Amplifone tube and perfect yoke would be tough... I don't think I could let it go. My Defender that I restenciled and upgraded with JROK and built a custom multi panel for would also be tough...

But who knows if a Williams Indy came around I might be able to make that decision real fast!

Either way it's all fun right?

Agree with most of the pro-pin posts here. Playing pins since the EM days, vids since they were invented. Pinball machines are far more 'real' and mechanical. Fun to repair/maintain too. OTOH, you really can replicate the videogame experience thru emulators/consoles, at least to a very high degree. There's no substitute for a real pin. More game-to-game variety in a pin, esp. with modern mode-based ones. The easily-simulated video experience rarely justifies the bulk of the cabs, imo.

[EDIT] BUT, Asteroids Deluxe is one of the few great vidgame experiences that justifies the real estate.

Agreed. That's why I still have my Space Invaders Deluxe...the "hologram" effect on the cardboard background w/ blacklight...that's a unique experience a home version can't duplicate.
