My wife's favorite game (or at least one of them) is Pengo

She is very good at it - but mine locks up from time to time... Let me explain

Tonight she was playing it - and was on level 9 - and it just decided to lock up = no control - no movement of any characters and the music just keeps going...

This happens fairly often - any ideas as to what might be causing this???

Could be a lot of things. I would play it until it locks up. Then leaving it locked up, I would go to the PCB and start feeling the chips to see if any of them are REALLY HOT to the touch (careful not to get burnt). If one is, it's probably bad.

I would also check voltages at that point too, make sure you're getting all the proper voltages.

When things heat up, flaky chips tend to fail, or connectors like the edge connector might not be making the best contact and your voltages might drop.
