When I put my Pengo into test mode I get a Bad ROM 4. Now I noticed after getting my monitor working and flipped correctly that I cannot go up or right. Left and down work fine. Would this bad rom have anything to do with the directional control? Or do I need to trace the wiring? It's good at the leafs and the onboard connector. Thanks!

I think it would be strange if a bad ROM effected a directional control.

Quick way to check the wiring is to look for +5ish at the switch. If you have it there between the GND and the directional wire at the switch then the wires are good from the switch to the edge connector. If you dont find that you have +5 at the switch then you need to figure out which wire is broken and where its broken.

Theres also a chance that the boards pull up resistor is bad for that signal.

Got it working by reseating the edge connector, the control panel connector, and pushing on some of the chips. Now I'd love to know what a bad RAM 4 means.

Good question. ;)

There are 10 ROMs on the board.

Best way is to read the contents against MAME-ROMs or romident.
