I recently got an Atari Football in working condition for just $200 with an extra non working board and the original manual.

The only issues is that the displays a bit blurry and it was covered in this ugly black vinyl. I took a gamble on getting it in hopes of the original art being underneath. I was not dissapointed. Enjoy the reveal in this video!

That right there is pure sex.

Ok, maybe not entirely but it is very satisfying, right? Great job man, enjoy that game when you get it finished!

Lol. This comment reminded me of that 'yeah sex is cool' meme, so...

that is awesome why was there vinyl in the first place is the question.

The original owner owned a vinyl decal and sign making shop. He said he'd had it for over 15 years and it had originally gotten professionally refurbished in Canada and even had the documentation to prove it. The board and electronics had a lot of professional overhauling done to it.

As for the artwork, he said he thought it was getting too scratched up so he covered it in vinyl made at his shop. The opposite side had a Nebraska football logo on it too. I mean there was A FEW scratches on the sides but not even close enough to justifying covering it. Though I have to wonder if covering it in vinyl all those years ago in a way immortalized the artwork from damage.

Unfortunately the Control Panels were covered too. They're putting up a bit more of a fight and are flaking around the edges where the buttons are and where the palms would rest (which I suppose is to be expected). But yeah, I'm going to have to be careful with that. I'm thinking of using a heat gun to try and take the vinyl off more gently. Though before that I'm going to wait a while for the weather around here to get better as it's pretty cold out in the garage.
