I'm looking to get my X-MEN sound repaired. I know DBstallman and GTRetro do these repairs but they are currently significantly backed up. Is anyone else on here able to do the repairs, or is there a business that does PCB repairs? If someone on here is able to do the repair I would definitely pay for the shipping, parts, and time spent.

i did two of them for my boards without ever having done SMT soldering/desoldering and without a hot air station. If you have a quality iron and some chipquik it's not too difficult to do if you take your time.

Yeah, that's a bit of a pain in the ass repair though :)

Does sound work at all, or is it completely dead? Any signs of corrosion on the black custom chip?

I'm out of town and out of stock on those boards. So long as I can get another one from Cias (is that the right spelling?) and your ASIC is good turn around wont take long at all.

Depending on the damage level you may not need a new hybrid but you cant really be sure until you do the initial work of replacing those caps.

The sound still works. It pops and crackles now and then but nothing major. I just wanted to do preventative maintenance so nothing goes horribly wrong and it's too difficult for anyone to repair. I'll post pictures of it in a few...

Thats good, that means the ASIC and the OPAMP are OK.

Changing the caps on the top of the hybrid IC is needed first. So long as there hasnt been a lot of leakage on the underside of the hybrid you should be OK.

FYI, that hybrid is made of ceramic. It absorbs heat like theres no tomorrow and if you heat it up too much you could easily crack it. That would be game over for that part.

This is what the front looks like, I can't really tell how the board looks behind the chip.

looks typical. Only two ways to find out if theres damage on the back.

pull the chip or repair the top.
