I won't have room in my battlezone mini cab to close the back door if I use one of bob's edge connector repair kits.

In the past I think someone mentioned how they laid down strips of metal or metal fabric and soldered it over each individual strip on the edge connector of hte pcb.

I think I need to go this route. Does anyone have a few feet of this stuff they want to sell.

PM bit_slicer. He'll get you chunk of tin tape to do your repair.

FYI - he's the one who's put up the FANTASTIC PCB repair vids on youtube:

Part 1: (see parts 2, 3 and more on the Tube:)

I've done this sucessfully, more or less the way bitslicer's video shows it. With a couple minor exceptions:

I found some copper strip material at a local hobby shop.
I didn't color my epoxy.

It's hard to use the copper trace tape to do edge connectors unless you either use some type of epoxy or the trace is the same on both sides of the board and you can wrap the tape around the edge of the board.

If you don't then the force of the connector going on tends to push the tape back off the board like a squeegee removing water from a windshield.

Luckily for the commonly burnt contacts on Pac Man boards, they are the same on both sides.

bob roberts says in 30 years he's never seen this done worth a shit. told me to focus more on cleaning the edge connector to the point that it glistens like a shiny dime.

how well does this stuff work:

It doesn't when it comes to edge connectors.

If you need to repair something that is low current then it's an option.

bob roberts ... told me to focus more on cleaning the edge connector to the point that it glistens like a shiny dime.

I've got a few boards where the metal material left on the board is pushing 1 nano meter in thinkness (ok, slight exageration...). Cleaning some just doesn't seem possible.

Anyway, funny you posted this... I was going to ask for a 6" strip myself from someone. I seem to recall a thread a year or so ago where YOU said you were going to buy a roll. I was going to hit you up for it, so the timing on this is just making me laugh my ass off. We were both in the same spot at the same time ast year, and neither of us has done anything about it. And now, we're both back looking at the same thing at the same time again.

In the past I've fixed boards by taking a piece of copper wire and hammering it flat. Once it is about as thick a thin piece of paper, I clean it and trim it to size. Solder it on and glue the underside with epoxy. After it drys, I make sure its clean and the same thickness as the other traces. So far its worked great for me. Even worked on a board that was pretty burnt up.
