I always hear how arcade monitors should be capped due to age and caps have a certain life span. That being said what about pcbs. What are the chances of recapping a not working pcb and it coming back to life or repairing partially working ones? Should we recap a working pcb just for reliability?

The only ones I'm aware of are the ones I sell on my website to cure Neo Geo sound ills... or the ones Bob Roberts sells to fix Pac Man sound and hum bar issues.

I have installed an asteroids and tempest cap kit I got from bob roberts.

both worked the same afterwards as they did before. (just fine for the tempest, and my sound issue didn't get resolved with the asteroids)

Most caps on pcbs dont have issues like ones in monitors due to the fact that they are not exposed to heat like a monitor chassis is. Usually when you have bad caps on a game pcb its in the sound section.

Recalling a game pcb is extremely unlikely to wake it up. Only rarely is a cap used in the reset system and only if it has been damaged will a recap fix anything.

i had half the sounds missing in my zaxxon when the game warmed up. recapped the sound section and brought all the sounds back perfectly.

Sure, that's the amp section. The OP was asking about a totally dead board.
