I have an issue with game images. I think it might be a motherboard issue, but I am not for certain.

Monitor is a Sharp 18" just fully recapped but with the old flyback.

With the dark colored screens I am getting slim vertical lines. These lines do not show up on the lighter colored parts of the games. On Mike T Punchout the background and some screens in SMB3, had colors change in Excitebike, Dr Mario, ect. But the menu screen (which is darkish green) is perfect and fully colored. I have messed with the flyback brightness, sharp control, and the 5 adjustments on the front bottom of the screen. I have not messed with the pcb color adjustments or the adjustments inside the monitor pcb.

I guess I need to post an image/video but I was looking for some tips on what to try tomorrow.

You're going to hate my answer, but I believe that you're looking at a problem that can't be fixed. A lot of the older Nintendo NES systems do the same thing. It has something to do with the GPU chip or something. It's not really a graphic issue, it's just some fairly annoying straight lines on large, colored areas, right? Almost like the contrast is up too high, or the focus is too sharp or something.

Yes this is it. Looks like too much contrast, but I cannot pull the darkness down enough to see and get rid of them.

Is is a motherboard issue then? Or just how the games are made?

It's something to do with the motherboard, but on the Nintendos, it seems to be the result of one of the chips they used. I've seen plenty of NEs systems that don't do that, and plenty that do (almost like 1 revision does it, and the rest don't). So i'm not sure if it's fixable, your particular board may have been doing it since it was new.

Well that is the same issue. Maybe I will try replacing the processor if/when I find a good deal on one.

Thank you for the information,
