Out of nowhere my computer poped up an error stating windows can not recognize a usb device. or that it was not working properly.

Out of nowhere. It says I have 10 ports in my device manager but I only have 8.. It also says this is an unknown device. I tried unistalling it, disabling it, starting in safe mode, unplugging the computer for minutes, and I can not get it to go away. I have no virus or anything.

All I hear is this fucking annoying sound every time something is trying to connect and disconnect when you plug in a usb. EVERY 2 SECONDS. I wanna shoot this thing. I even unplugged every usb device I have and still nothing. HELP

Once, I worked on a guys computer whose brother decided to plug in a USB device upside down, it cause all kinds of trouble.

I would say check that all your connections are good, and nothing is jammed in the ports. When the guy decided to plug it in, the tab on the inside of the port broke, and there was a short between some of the pins.

Also, unplug any extra ports from the motherboard, like front ports, or auxillary cards. If nothing else, just to narrow down the number of ports you need to troubleshoot.

I havent done anything with anything usb, like I said this came out of no where.. Im gonna I guess try to disconnect them, Like I said it says I have 10 and I only count 8..

I wasn't suggesting you damaged them, just giving an option to check out.

I figure you would have mentioned it, but did you install any type of virtual drive? CD-Rom or something? Those can show up as USB sometimes.

You pretty much covered all the basic troubleshooting in your original post. Have you tried rolling back your chipset drivers to an older version? or makeing sure the version on there is current?

I didnt mean that you were suggesting I damaged anything, I think I might have, I realize now I cleaned my tower with windex, whats the chance that affected a usb port? Keep in mind Im using both of the ones that could have been damaged (only cleaned the top and front, ANTEC 900 case) and there both working fine??

Also yea checked all the drivers and stuff, it comes up as unknown device in the manager which is something I dont get. All I have hooked up are my keyboard, mouse, and wireless adapter and all of those show in the manager. This sucks. Im backing up my pc currently and its gonna take like literally a day so I cant turn my pc off yet..

oh counted again.. 7 usb ports. not 10 and really 6 because I have one on my keyboard and its not hooked up (keyboard has 2 usb cables, one is keyboard the other is usb port)

The only way I can see it having an affect would be if some windex got in to one of the ports, causing it to short out.

Get some canned air and spray out the ports.

After that, I'm kind of out of ideas, lol.

well I dont know what to do. If I open my device manager, it changed every 2 seconds, this shit is annoying as hell. I have 6 ports on my tower, and they all work flawlessly.. theres no way its a problem with them..

How is it telling me I have 10 and I only have 6? How can I get rid of the others

I have this Fucking device unabled, if I uninstall it tries to reinstall and fail. (OMG FUCK THIS NOISE) (I posted this before I saw yours, I wasnt yelling it in response LOL)

Now when I click the error message, and click properties it gives me a code 45. which means the hardware is not connected.. WHAT HARDWARE. I dont EVER have anything pluggd into my computer other than my keyboard, mouse and wireless adapter. THERE PLUGGED IN and HAVE NOT moved..

honestly this noise is driving me up a fucking wall

EVERYTHING for this says UNKNOWN DEVICE..

Glad that worked out for you. I always disable the system restore, and I hate recommending it. Guess it can do some good sometimes.
