Hey all - I just thought I would share about what *I* think is a pretty neat looking PC game that, if released, would be fun for at least a night or two. If you don't care about PC games, then there's no need to read further.

Anyway, the game is named ArcadeCraft, and is apparently being released on X-Box Live soon. The company, Firebase, is putting a feeler out to see if there would be much interest in a PC version of the game.

As a fellow arcade collector, I think I a game like this definitely has some appeal among our crowd. I think it would surely appeal to other arcade collectors who also just happen to be PC / Console gamers and collectors too (yeah, there's just a couple of us out there). ;)

Anyway, check out the trailer on YouTube:

I know right now the game looks a little limited in places, but if it becomes popular, then it is sure to be greatly expanded upon. If you also want to see the game come to PC, then you should go vote for it on Steam (you have to have a Steam account). The link on Steam is here:

I really would like to see this game come out for PC, so I figured I would share among my fellow collectors.

Hopefully the developers are smart enough to release the pc version in such a way that someone else can easily make a mod to change the games into the real ones.

Does anyone know when it will be comming to xbox live? I just showed my son and he wants it, Gives me a reason to buy it for myself also.

Very cool. But would like original cabinets. I'd def buy it. Looks like a dreamers paradise.

I like the idea.

One issue I see, though: the "crowd" isn't really a crowd. Dunno about other's arcades BIID, but people were tripping over each other in mine.

I agree - original cabinets, sounds, and game screen animations would be great, but I'd still buy the game just as it is, that is unless it was stupidly expensive. Hopefully since it is indie, that won't be the case.

Yeah, but the developers must not have done their homework very well. Indy stuff does way better on Steam than X-Box live, and the developers keep more of the money.

Isn't this going to be on XBOX live as well?

That's the main sticking point for the developers. The X-Box version uses X-Box Live avatars as the "crowd" that patronizes your arcade. Because of this, they were able to develop the game faster for X-Box (since they didn't need to develop characters for the game).

For the PC release, they are seeing if it generates enough interest in Steam Greenlight before investing the time to replace the X-Box avatars with something more portable, which would make the game possible for PC. This is why it's important to go vote for the game in Steam Greenlight. It lets the developers know you want a PC port, and that way they know it's worthwhile to cut the ties that binds the game to X-Box.

So, yeah, consider this as my plea to go vote, because I want the game to become popular enough to make the developers want to enhance the concept! :D

My kid is looking forward to it, as am I, so I voted for it.

Yeah, in retrospect that probably wasn't the best development choice.

PC is the dominant downloadable platform. From the articles I have read an Indy developer will make more in one day having their game as the half price daily special on Steam than they will in a year on X-Box live.

Remember developers,

Don't write games in flash, you will only end up having to rewrite it in a real language later (yeah I am looking at you VVVVVV) or have it as an eternal almost good crapfest without functional options (looking at you Binding of Isaac).

Real games have remappable controls and different resolutions.

Real games are not hard coded to 4:3 aspect ratio.

Develop for PC and X-Box simultaneously. Doing it separately is more work and the second one won't sell as well.

Pc gamers have more money than console gamers because they are a lot older.

The problem is that every indie developer now wants to be on Steam, and now they have to go through the Steam Green light process to be able to get on Steam. Firebase already has one completed game, Orbitron, that is still waiting on the green light on Steam. I voted for that game too (even though it is already available on Indievania and GameStop) because I would love to see these guys get on to Steam which will really fund their ability to keep developing Arcadecraft

From what I gather, they did develop the PC version at the same time - it's just that for the X-Box version, they didn't have to create the characters since they could use the X-Box avatars. I read somewhere the PC version is 100% complete, except for the characters.

im in! cant wait! xbox live for me!

Hey, buying on X-Box Live still supports the cause, so it's all good. Bet you can't tell, but I'm kind of fired up for this game! :D I've been waiting for an "Arcade Tycoon" type of game for years!

I thought Greenlight was a way of getting things onto Steam that steam turned down initially, sort of a second chance thing. It is so new I haven't really looked at it yet.

Might be a great idea to partner with some other indy developers and see if they can't use characters out of other games as patrons (Super Meat Boy, etc). A Team Fortress 2 cross promotion would be even better, it almost guarantees you sell a ridiculous amount of copies.

3,195 games posted to Steam Greenlight

It's probably just as difficult to get on Steam now as it was when Valve handpicked games. They've only allowed 31 games so far since it launched August 30th. And that was 11 more than they planned on allowing. All this service does is give the APPEARANCE of a somewhat open platform.

Anyway, I'd buy this for PC for sure.

I just wish the software was out there to help you design your arcade. To heck with the live action. It's alot simpler to lay out your arcade before you build it, using this (at least it APPEARS that way) rather than trying to use Sketchup...

Yea man, I'm with you! I'm hoping they (or someone) would make an Arcadecraft room editor which might be a makeshift way to plan an arcade room. Still, I don't think this would be exactly accurate since the room seems to be locked down to a grid.

Anyway, not to get off topic here, but I found Sweet Home 3D (Open source) to be a very capable and not super difficult to learn to use. Only problem is I don't think it currently supports importing Sketckup models. Maybe it's worth starting another thread to discuss.
