paypal sticks it to us again WARNING

yep, how many times have you taken a large number of pre labeled packages into the post office and handed them to the clerk. They ask "are they ready to go?", you reply "yes", they take the stack and toss them in the bin. Bye Bye delivery conf. If they dont manually scan each one into the system when they recieve them, they are never entered. Ive taken as many as 50 packages at once in, and checked the tracking a week later to find that none of them were ever valid

My postman picks up my packages and he scans them in the back of the truck with his remote scanner.

That's USPS giving you an online discount and free (utterly useless) delivery confirmation, not paypal.

Actually Paypal charges more for USPS shipping (UPS is real rate) but offsets it with the cheap delivery confirmation. How is delivery confirmation useless? As a seller i have immediately won 2 disputes dealing with items "not received" just by pointing to the delivery confirmation.

Utterly useless for tracking packages... useful only for paypal claims.

Considering they often don't scan at pickup, and scan when the package leaves the post office for delivery (not AT the delivery location), and the fact that the tracking info doesn't usually show up for a week after shipping, it's useless.

Totally agree. It has never helped me. AG can attest to that.

Disagree with Mark's paypal thoughts, but he is absolutely right about the USPS tracking! Once I give the post office the parcel, that is the last I know about it until I get a email from buyer stating they got it. USPS in the past 5 or so years ago became very lazy and unprofessional. They are what started the standards for domestic shipping like UPS and Fed-Ex. Yet, Fed Ex and UPS has done circles around them in standards. USPS employees know they have a government job with gaurantee paycheck, they careless about us. My mail carrier sux!!! She will stuff a box that is 2x the size of the mailbox into it. If that fails, she will leave it on the road by the mailbox. I complain to the post office and they don't care. Oh damn! Sorry.. I'm getting into a RANT over USPS :)

If you use the USPS website you can print out a PS 5630 "Scan Form", which you take to the post office. The downside is they have to scan it, dealing with the often happy, professional postal employees, but it is acknowledgment of them receiving the package.

Delivery confirmation really isn't tracking, but it does live up to its name and has been useful in confirming non-delivery in the several insurance claims I've had to make. It's also been useful in resolving some delivery problems. Certainly hasn't been useless,

You want useless then the registered international, takes literally MONTHS to get confirmation back that anything was delivered. I'll never ever use that "service" again.

It is also quite possible that Paypal's change was forced on the by the Credit Card companies.

Credit Card companies don't like it when merchants"discriminate" against CC customers. By allowing you to accept non-CC payments, such "discrimination" is going on.

I haul a load to the post office everyday and agree that the post office sucks in this respect. If you pay full price at the post office (print labels at home with free delivery confirmation) then they scan the boxes as they ring them up. If you prepay, they get dumped into a bin and never seen again by a scanner until delivered...maybe. You have absolutely no proof that the items were ever shipped. If you check on the delivery confirmation number - you get a message saying the post office has been notified of a pending shipment. Then you have a 20% chance that the item won't get scanned again when delivered. Guess what - you no longer have a leg to stand on when somebody disputes an order with Paypal. There's no proof of delivery... not even proof that it was shipped.

I have used Paypal for 7+ years and love it. I remember the days of me going to the post office and filling out 12+ Money Orders in one day. I missed one and got a negative. The one thing I hate about Paypal is the Money Market Percent has gone way down. It use to be near 4% now it is less than 1 percent.

And yes USPS DC sucks but I require it on all packages as some one told me once they didn't get there package and I had no way of knowing. When I do my labels on line it is free. I do wish it were like UPS tracking I can look at it and it will say left Davis PA Arrived in Cinny, OH at 9:45PM Left Cinny, OH 11:23 arrived St Louis eft St Louis Arrived Dallas, TX Left Dallas TX arrived Ovilla, TX at such and such time. But I love USPS flat rate boxes.

You actually get confirmation back?!?!
You're lucky!

wow - all this blows - you mean people have to pay for a service that offers protection and recourse if someone screws another person over on a deal? What else could possibly happen??? Using the mail service to send money orders and checks??? THE HUMANITY.

Things costs money - services cost money - time costs money.
