Pawn Stars

In regards to the Atari... yeah maybe that is steep - I was a little surprised when I saw that as well - I really didnt think they were gonna buy it at all... but as far as resale... yes you can get one on ebay (I agree) however its Vegas and everything there sells for more than it should in Vegas. So they will probably resell if for 200 hundred.... who knows.
As far as the ball - it was pretty beat - I dont think any of us would be having this discussion if it was minty will clear autographs on it...

Exactly.

Anyone here who wants to buy Atari 2600s from me for $100 with 50 games, let me know. I'll go buy a bunch and happily re-sell them to you.

Rare games are rare for a reason. You can go through a collection of 200 games before you find something worth more than $20. ;)

Maybe I got lucky then... Found a nice Pengo in my lot of 60 or so games I bought (for $20) that I could probably get about $25 for.

I don't know if the guys on that show have that much "know-how", but if the 2600 was an original 1977 "Heavy Sixer," the 2600 unit itself is worth more than $100... ;)

I recently just did a lot of research on Heavy Sixers, because that's what I had growing up, and I wanted one to put in a glass case or something. I was amazed at what they were pulling in!

I got lucky (?) and bought one in decent shape/appearance (that didn't work though) for $25 shipped. ;)

$22.99 or best offer.

GREAT game for the 2600 - fun to play. Not terribly rare, though.

Once the hobby got going, people turned up a lot more copies of games people once thought to be rare. Chase the Chuckwagon is a great example.

"Heavy sixers" sell from $25 to $900. People seem to be clueless about them. Once they get wise, most of them will go for less than $100.

Come back to this thread in a year. ;)

(P.S. - I bought my Heavy Sixer from Salvation Army - boxed and never used. $7. Sold it for considerably more.)

Insulting low? That ball was in horrible shape. These dudes are a retail shop, and need to make money. They wouldn't have been able to sell that ball for any kind of profit.

Remember to say this exact same line (with the necessary "arcade" word substitution) the next time someone starts a thread about somebody like RLevin or another business guy buying low and selling high....

Am I getting this right... people actually spend time watching TV about... A PAWN SHOP?

Really?

its one step up from spending time on a board about old arcade games and reading links about people watching shows about pawn shops.

:)

Good show IMO...Better than most of the other crap sitcoms on the networks

Some absolute gems of games in there.

None of those lots was the pile of junk presented on Pawn Stars. And, I mean, it was a pile of junk...unless I missed out on seeing a copy of Halloween or something. ;)

You can't honestly tell me that you were able to recognize every single game in that box on Pawn Stars. Who's to say there wasn't a rare gem or two in there.

are you guys being serious? Who cares about the price of the frickin atari.

Its $100 bfd and will try to sell it for $200 (probably wont get it). Its an impulse buy for someone coming in off the strip to burn some cash they won at the tables.

I love the show. I guess alot of it comes from being raised in a family business. Nothing like seeing how other people in your shoes see things.
The Atari 2600 had 70 games, not 50. Was it a great deal? No. But, i'm sure they flipped it quick, and had a blast playing it in their downtime in the shop for a week or 2 before it sold. It wasn't like they paid 5 grand for it. I'm sure even if they gave it away, the hundred bucks wouldn't break them.
And you can tell that they enjoy what they do. They're as fascinated by the stuff that comes through the door as everyone else is, and thats what i like about it.
Do i always agree with their pricing? No. But, you know what, if it bothered me too bad, i'd open up a pawn shop of my own and prove them wrong. But, it doesn't.
I don't watch the "tattoo" shows fwiw. I do watch American Chopper, and that goes back to growing up in the family business i think. Plus, some of the characters are fun. Chumlee reminds me of a dumbed down version of Mikey. lol.

I used to sell working Atari 2600 + 100 games (nothing rare) anywhere from 129 to 159. I probably soldat least 5 to 10 lots. When I sold the business part of it I sold 100+ Systems, 1800 Games ( a few rare) and assorted odds and ends for 2800 and I sold my Boxed Collection of over 300 games for 2600. This was a few years back. I even traded off some of my games and boxed games before hand for 3 NES Top Loaders.

I got an NOS Top loader in unopened box from Salvation Army for $5.00! I sold it with 200 games for over $1000.00 many many years ago. Yes, there were rare games in the lot.

Values of systems and games depends on rarity of games, condition of systems and if original paperwork (manuals and boxes) are present. Without knowing what games were in that lot you can't put a value base on it. At the same time, I doubt that any of those pudunk rednecks at Pawnstars knows what games are rare and which games are not. I seriously doubt Pawnstars will be buying any more 2600s in the future.

Luck is probably the biggest factor often.

PURE FUCKING LUCK
Right Asking price, Right Idiot Buyer.

I have sold a regular NES bundle for more than I could ever get out of a RGB NES bundle or AV moded toploader Model.

And they will almost certainly not sell it as a lot. They'll ask $2/game & $25 for the system. It might take forever to get rid of it all, but that would be a $50+ profit.

dont make any money like that. i have three friends who own pawn shops, and they never pay more than a third of what they think the item will sell for. first they have to make their money back and then cover their overhead for their location. they also need to have room to barter, and still make a profit. no matter what things sell for more in vegas, the fact is noone would pay $300 for that $50 box of junk. i think a funny idea for someone to get on TV would be to load a trailer full of a couple hundred of these things and show up at that pawn shop looking for 20 grand. most atari games dont even sell on ebay for 99 cents. so when you say $2 a game and $25 for the system, that doesnt account for the 68 out 70 games that arent worth a dollar. i have a friend who owns a junk store that sells mainly dvds, records, and video games. i sold him my (huge) home video game collection years ago and most of it is still sitting there, especially the nes/genesis/atari games. people picked out the handful of rare ones and the rest of them will sit there forever.

Wow. We have derailed.

We are now such ravenous price police that people are arguing over what pawn shops should have paid for baseballs and atari's.

Scary.

i am bored, unemployed, and love to argue. to be fair, this is a stupid thread about a stupid pawn shop on a stupid tv show, so its not like its some serious arcade related discussion being derailed here.
