Pawn Stars Offers $600 on a Goofy Hoops arcade game...

I was still scratching my head at an early episode where someone brings in "real treasure" and was trying to get $700k for it. Seriously? Something that rare and valuable and you're bringing it to a pawn shop? To me it was that episode that said there was a lot wrong with the show.

But it's entertaining nonetheless.

Watch the coke machine episode. I hate to break the news... but it's fake... and it's pretty much common knowledge it's fake.

It's staged, but that doesn't mean it is fake. Pawn shops in Vegas get a lot of strange stuff. People bring a lot of small easily pawned items wth them to Vegas. I had a friend that always took 5 gold Kruggerands (sp?) with him to Vegas, "for emergency purposes only".

I agree that some of the "restoration" experts have done horrible jobs. If you notice when they pan around the pawn shop, the coke machine is still there.

There are also people now that are bringing stuff to them for the publicity to get it aired so they can tag it "as seen on pawn stars". That is what the owner of that Kiss pinball did and he made a mint on it. He got almost double what he was originally asking for it (IIRC).

The show is staged, no question. It would be really boring watching people buy overpriced gold chains and used Rolexes all day. That would not be very entertaining and the name of the game is entertainment.

IT'S FAKE! Sheesh. Watch the COKE episode if you doubt it. They drop off a 1950's coke machine that SOMEHOW turns in to a restored 1960's machine from a different manufacturer. It's all a big crock of crapola. If you find it entertaining, great... I did too... until I realized it was fake.

EDIT: What went in was a early 1950's VENDO 39 machine... what came out was a 1960's Cavalier machine... two completely different machines...

EDIT #2: This is what went in:

This is what came out:

The one guy bought a Grammy given for the song "Patches", and didn't know the song.

I hadn't been born when that song came out, and even I knew it. I was embarrassed for him.

Probably realized it was totally unrestorable to original condition and opted to fudge the show with one they thought could pass with the story of "modifying it".
Appears Rick's Restorations did what they could with the original one and turned it into a fridge, which was all that was really left of it. Makes no sense to "restore" something if you damn near need a complete donor machine in the end.

You can compare the BEFORE pic with the one here that shows the machine in the Pawn Shop and see that this is the same machine from the show. http://community.history.com/topic/10934/t/What-s-with-the-FAKE-Coke-machine.html (the one that got turned into a fridge that is, not the Cavalier model)

I believe Rick's Restorations or whatever may be getting their own spot on the history channel. So I would guess some of the gimics are also to plug his business and interest.

No big deal to me.......I still like the show.

bringing it back on track a bit... The Goofy Hoops... People will pay that kind of money. I was in Canada recently at a auction and saw one of these machines. I was going to bid on it because I needed parts for another one. When a broken machine, that wouldn't turn on and had a broken dmd sold for close to $300 before fees and taxes. I can see one of those selling at that price retail considering it works.

I think the show's entertaining. I've never seen the Coke machine episode, so I can't say there, but sounds pretty shady to me

I would probably agree with the staged and not fake thing. Most the people probably come in, and the tv show guys say "okay, now, come back in and we'll film it"

as for restorations. I could see a lot of them costing that much. You have to remember, THEY are not doing the work, they are farming it out. And that guy probably charges $75+ per hour PLUS parts. and when he's done, they sell things at retail price, not what we'd want to pay for them.

I saw the goofy hoops, or whatever it was, and I was surprised they offered him $600 for it. But, they I thought, if they are selling it at retail price, they will try to get $1200 for it. They almost always try to at least double their money.

was i the only one that noticed the lines out in the display on the Goofy hoops?
I wouldn't have given them 50 bucks for it, but, i'm not looking for a redemption game either.
