What parts currently unavailable would you like to see someone repro?

I'm in training to be a machinist/CNC operator and eventually I'd like to pad my paycheck by making stuff on the side at home, preferably for my favorite hobby which is coin-ops.

I'm a LONG way from this actually happening but I thought I'd put some feelers out there to see what people might be interested in, so I can start gather data, drawings etc on such?

Star Wars flight yokes? Some oddball controller from a rare game?

I know there's some pedals that are always turning to crap for games like Badlands and Hard Driving that have a weird, unreplaceable gel pressure-senor that breaks down, I'm wondering if perhaps I can develop a retro-fit kit can replace it with a potentiometer or something? There are also no doubt gears for other things that always go that are normally made out of plastics like nylon but would probably be better off made out of aluminum.

For myself I'm going to make a set of repro controls for an Exidy Fire One for which I have the PCBs, though I know there won't be demand for those as most people have never even heard of it.

metal coin door return flaps for the early 80's coinco single doors - takeman where are you?

i need about 20

One thing I wish was easier to do is to make mini/cabarets of the games that were only prototyped or were never made as minis.

For example Taito made a bunch of minis, but it's impossible to find Front Line. I wouldn't want to steal from Jungle King to make Front Line, so it would be great to have the metal parts available as a kit. Same's true for Bally Minis or Atari Klax/Tetris. I think some parts were made for each, but I wish there were more new cabinets built to be identical and with other games.

The custom chips for the Electrohome G-08

That's WAY above my skills! :D I'm talking primarily about metal parts that can be done on a lathe, CNC and/or milling machine.

You'd have to get a genius like Adam or someone to take a crack at that, and it would be fantastic if substitutes become available, I'd love to see someone sell repro PCBs like has been done for Ampliphones and Pat 9000 vectors.

Wico joysticks. Why can't these be made? The patents are all expired. Why are these not available?

Yet.

:D

Are there any drawings out there? Someone point me towards an example of a Wico joystick, I know the name but I'm drawing a blank as to which games used them.

How about Monroe joysticks too? Any games aside from Gyruss use them?

Again let me remind you this is all in the realm of fantasy right now, if I EVER do any repro's it's going to be quite a while. One, I have to finish the course, two, I've got to get a place to work on stuff, three, while I have a lathe I don't have a real CNC, miller or metal brake yet.

Arkanoid spinner knob/shaft assembly.

I have some of those, I'll have to dig one up. They have small gears but they might be obtainable, perhaps I'll do up a machinist's drawing on the whole mechanism just for practice.

How long to the patents on these things typically last?

I meant new ones, not used ones for $65 each.

Yeah but I meant is that the type of joystick you're referring to?

Unless people would want the base made of machined aluminum, which would be more expensive, I'd have to try to make a home injection mold system.
Not impossible and others have done it, but it would be an experiment on my part, with no doubt a TON of trial and error.

Parts that make up the Battlezone joysticks.

1. Mounting plate circles, most of them have the screw legs broke off of them or about ready to break. (should be made out of aluminum)

2. Ball joint, lots of them are torn up and have heavy gouges in the plastic.

3. The joystick base. Just like the ball section, the socket part of the base is usually broken or badly gouged.

Smooth top carriage bolts, both U.S. and metric sizes, both zinc plated and black.
