Bummer. How come it's being parted out?

wasn't this a convert a cab? I guess that makes the pain of chopping it up a little easier to bear.

Yes I know.

It's just one of those games that's worth more in parts than whole. I can't remember the last time I saw a Star Trek upright go for more than a few hundred, if that.

You could get a working cockpit for the value of these parts, and probably have money left over.

Bring on Garfield! Maybe some kickass dolphins with horns and stuff.

Don't play dumb :) c'mon, show everyone the Garfield/Kermit and Horny Dolphin specials!

I'm not playing dumb, just trying to understand the connection.

I made a game for a lady who bought it as a birthday present for someone. She didn't like any of the tradition of side art, and instead wanted a picture of Garfield on one side and Kermit on the other. I thought it looked pretty stupid, but that's what she wanted and that's what she paid for.

I still don't see what that has to do with parting out a Star Trek.

The story of the Garfield/Kermit game is long and involved. NAVL damaged the game in transit, so the lady in Chicago didn't want it anymore. NAVL shipped it back and I gave her a refund. I posted it to CraigsList with the G/K side art, but eventually removed it and just painted it black.

The game with the dolphinssideart was never on CraigsList that I now of. Someone on the east coast bought it for their beach house.

Ahahahahhah..

I remember both of those on CL.

Jon

Lol me too! Legendary!

The connection is, the same fate that befell those poor games also hit poor Star Trek. Dying a painful death only to become a multigame covered in garfield stickers. Don't buy games you don't want or have no intention of leaving whole, there's just too many empty or converted cabs out there to multigame without killing classics. There's just no reason to do it. Sad when a game like Star Trek makes it 25 years in one piece and good shape and then gets parted, painted and pimped for a buck.

It's all about the dollar now. There are so many hacks out there now parting , converting and turning games into multi or jamma crap. Very few collectors left now it seems.

Pr0K and Jon,

While I agree with a lot of your points, shudder when seeing classics converted into multigames (full disclosure: I have turned 3 trashed Nintendo cabinets into DK multi's), and pride myself on doing restorations as-close-as-possible to original for my collection, you guys are really being dicks to Ray....WTF?

I thought you were friends with him Jon? No offense, but it seems pretty damn 2-faced to me. Tell him what you think. Absolutely! I do...even when it may ruffle feathers...but don't ridicule him in "public" just to dogpile on.

Even worse is the pot calling the kettle black. While I agree, PrOK, about not killing originals for multi's....the funny thing is that your buddy Jon does it all the time. Why don't you mention that? Donkey Kongs, Midway Pac/Galaga games, etc, etc. Do I care? No. Pimped for a buck, Pr0k? Yes, that sucks...I agree....honestly. But what you and Jon haven't mentioned is that "pimped for a buck" isn't just from Ray. Jon, do you remember when Gooch sold you those tapes and you turned around and "pimped them for a buck?" Do you remember when Ray was nice and sold you those Turkey Shoots AT COST for like $350 each so you could have a nice one for your collection? And then, just within the past 2 weeks, you turned around and tried to "pimp" the one second on Ebay for $1400 or so?? Ray felt pretty bad when he saw that you did that, but did he get on here and act like a 12 year old kid and flame you??? NO. ProK and Jon, do you the both of you remember the Pinball Showdown when you (Jon) were giving Ray Shit for making multis out of games ...only to start doing it yourself just a few months later when it was obvious that it made money?? Remember posting that cocktail Pong on Ebay, claiming it was an Atari so that it didn't make only $100? Yeah, a lot of people noticed. But, everyone was decided to be cool with it and let it roll.

Guys, I get your points, and I think you're right on many. But, if you're going to point the finger, point it fairly. And if you consider Ray a friend (which I assume you do since you invited him to your Halloween party)...and not just some schmuck to make money off of...talk to him about this in private.

Not cool.....

You've got to be kidding? I dont think you know me well enough to comment on this. I know Ray and think he's a good guy, but saying im two faced because I made a comment about parting out a nice working game? I have no problem with people making multigames out of conversions or making multi's for people who want to "upgrade" their machines.. But I consider myself a collector and wouldnt (couldnt) do that to a game. Ethically I wouldnt do it and I consider it bad Karma.

Im two faced for laughing at the Dolphin multi or the Garfield/Kermit multi? I emailed Ray myself and laughed about it with him months ago.

As for the TAPES I sold, I told Dan 10 times what they were worth. And I sold the tapes, who cares.. I still have the Deco games and they are still Deco games.

I buy tons of converted games and make them multi's.. Im upfront about that. But saying you know I convert dedicated games is total BS. If I pickup a blue nintendo cab.. I can either convert it to a DK or a multi.. Thats not converting a dedicated game.

The Turkey Shoot.. I dont get why you're commenting on this? I still have it.. its not sold.. did I part it out?? NO! its still here. Yeah he sold me both, a year ago.. Not a week ago.... I didnt just try to FLIP IT. What im suppose to keep the game forever? I guess you're reaching for straws.

The "ATARI PONG / NUTTING TABLE TENNIS" comment was pointless. I didnt mention any shill bidding did I?

The comment about RAY having Multi's at the Pinball Showdown is a complete joke, considering ive been selling multi's for years before Ray and had several of them in the previous years at the Pinball Showdown. Im sure Ray can vouch for that. If prok said something, it had nothing to do with me. By the way, I even let Ray set up his games in my area this year.

I think its not cool that you try to drag me into this considering its Ray thats parting out the game.

If anyone doubts the extent of eXidy's dedication to the hobby, he and I drove on a 2 day trip into the middle of dirt road backwoods Alabama just to try and SAVE two Warriors coverted to Pacs, because the guy was going to trash them. It was nearly pointless, and we kind of knew it, but were like "Oh, well, if we can at least get a couple parts to help save a couple Warrior projects..."

Jon's probably, of all the collectors I've known over the years, the one who takes the preservation of dedicated games to the most extreme levels. I remember he almost got into a fight on a game deal with a guy once, because the color of the Frontline taito cabinet was green and not orange, and the guy had told him it was dedicated. LOL Those were the days!
