I have two cabs that I am working on and one is particle board with laminate (cab1) and the other is plain particle board(cab2). Both have a little swelling along the bottom. Cab2 also has some rough edges along the bottom and also rough corners. I don't care much for the corner protectors but will use them if necessary. But what snouty the rest of the bottom edge? The cab had aluminum angle iron on it. Should I just replace it? The guy buying the game isn't a hobbyist but I want it to look nice for him.

Cab2 only has swelling and I need to figure out how to remove the swelling without removing the laminate completely. Also, provided I hav to cut the laminate off of the bottom 2-3 inches (to be able to sand the wood), should I use bondo as a filler and just paint the cab as planned? I've used grip tape as a toe kick on the front before to replace what was there and keep it the same as it was before. What could I put on the sides (if anything)?

You could just cut the bad material out and make a slightly smaller (about 2") base all around and mount the cab on that. Like a little box. Nintendo cabs are like that. They have a base at the bottom and the cab sits on top of it.

The box would be black, as not to be noticeable.

Our you could just nail some 1X4's at the bottom all around and make like a kick plate. Even some siding would work. Maybe even some kind of wall plate from Lowes.

The first idea would mean re-mounting the bottom, redoing the inside base where the legs are mounted. the second idea would be easier.

Or some combination of both.

Just a couple of quick, cheap ideas.
