Hey guys,

just picked up a dedicated paperboy last night. The controller works for the most part but is a little finnicky. The brake and speed up part of the controller don't always seem to make the connection and you either have to pull or push the controller hard or do it several times for it to go the correct speed. Any advice?

Also the controller doesn't sit firmly on the control panel...missing bushing?

I see that parts for this controller are quite costly. Any places to get cheap parts for this?

Sounds like you need new pots (you can try cleaning them with electronic cleaner spray, found at radio shack). You can get them from daviea on the forums here. He's got a special price right now, 2 for $10 shipped I think, and that's the number you'll need. Can't beat that deal.

As for sitting firmly, it probably needs to be re-welded. These commonly break but it's easily repaired if you or someone you know can weld.

Mine does the same.. and mine will just slow down and I can't get him going fast again. I bought the pots from Dave, great deal, but haven't gotten around to replacing them yet.

It's also possible the pots are fine but they have slipped out of place due to the pin or whatever that tightens down on them loosening. This would make them only catch occasionally or work at their extreme.

These pots usually need replacing. Once you do you will not believe the difference in gameplay. Also check the gears out before ordering just in case they are chipped. The paperboy controller seems to be much more forgiving on the gears than some of the other controllers that use them.
Ram controls in your source on these.

Damn controller haha

Cool thanks for the help. I wonder where it needs to be welded...haven't had the time to look at it. Anyone have any pictures or anything documented? My brother and I recently started taking videos and uploading them to YouTube. Thought it would be helpful.

Welding the vontroller

So when you guys mentioned a broken weld I thought, ok this sounds like soldering...just need to find a welding machine. Apparently it's mire difficult than that and not a common tool to have. Anyone who's had the controller rewelded, where have you taken the machine?

I did mine and another local collector's myself. Find a metal shop and have them do it for you if you can't find someone you know to do it (it's not that uncommon!).

I can weld it if you send it to me. I have Mig, Tig, oxy/acyt, spot welders here. I can also machine new bushings if it needs it and I have a spare set of new pots that could go in it. So...pm me if you want the whole unit checked over and repaired.
I have a paperboy so I can test it out when its finished.
