Paperboy Graphic Issue

I'm in agreement that it looks/sounds like a RAM issue.

If you swapped all the RAMs and it's still there, my next thought is that there is a bad RAM socket or a broken trace under there.

Sorry for the thread resurrection, did you ever get it sorted out? Mine developed a fault this weekend with narrow vertical stripes in some of the playfield graphics.

Are the alpha numerics (text) messed up? What does the self test tell you?

Things that have stripes

All tests pass fine.
The text is OK.
The mailboxes, (but not the SUN text on them)
doors,
doormats,
Flowerbed,
roofs,
blue screen behind the high score table,
newspaper (but not picture) during the attract screen.

not the windows, people, things that are destructible/changeable.

Happened after we had a power failure at the last gaming event.

I'm going to start with the eight 6116 ram chips that are clustered together on the video board when time allows. Still very playable. Maybe, along the way, I'll figure out why the trashcans are just empty white spots on the screen, and I seem to lack some shades of grey.

Hrmm, so it would seem that the alpha numeric motion object RAM is fine and if all of the tests pass then that would suggest that the data lines are good between the RAM (Both banks) and the Processor.

I would start by looking at the address lines on the Playfield RAM and then move back through the chips to the CPU.

EDIT - For the sake of clarity - this started with ONLY a power failure.. it wasn't moved in between the power loss and the next powerup?

Thanks for the input.

Thanks for the guidance. I'll dig into it later. Because it is mostly functional, it goes to the back of the line so I can work on the other 8 machines that won't do anything at all :)

Ok more stupid questions: (I hate to get into board diags without due diligence)
Have you have validated all of the power supply voltages?
You have a CS board set yes? Have you swapped the RAM/ROMs over to absolutely validate them?

Yeah, they are all good :)

Haven't done anything with the CS boards. They are somewhat suspect anyways. I wouldn't trust them.

Hopefully, by the end of the summer I can get back to it. Really only want/need to get it 100% by the time MAGfest rolls around next January.
