Paperboy Bubble?

I have a Champion Sprint with the Paperboy Board and Video Pcb in it plus roms. But for these prices for control panels am change my mind for the rebuild.

You will need the security chip a sticker on a pcb does not magically make it into a paperboy.

I've sold complete Paperboy machines for $450 and $650...
Looks like I missed the bubble.

Oops...

Don't feel too bad, I sold a working quantum for $1100 and a non working one for $700..

One of my all-time faves, and it's never leaving.

Unless of course someone throws STUPID money at me.

Someone came over that converted a paperboy look at my boards and said its a easy convert

It is easy as long as you can find the slapstic. Which looks like now is being reproduced

Yeah, I just read that... That changes everything. But it's still not 100% going to work as sometimes the speech part of the system 2 pcb quits working and it's not Pokeys. Plus you need about 15 - 20 EPROMs burned.. but one thing that does, it put more value on the controls..

Where did you read about the slapstic being reproduced? That's some great news. I have a few Championship Sprint board sets that I bought a long time ago thinking they were Paperboy due to the sticker on the board. They're all set up for Paperboy now, save for the correct slapstic chip.

I got a Paperboy last year, but it was part of a deal so hard to say what I really "paid" for it. Not $2k, that is for sure. Wouldn't sell it for that either. I'm actually trying to make a Championship Sprint because I like the game. Got everything needed except the empty cab (but I know where one is!), and the hardest thing to find: TIME.

The recent fascination with Paperboy is kinda mysterious. Next year it will be something else.

I have all the eproms burned for the paperboy

Both ends of the spectrum here:

Bought mine a couple of years ago for $350 or $400 - I actually went to see it and walked away as I thought it was a bit rough. Then went back a week later and bought it and spent around $600-$700 on restoration, artwork, nos grips, chroming the handlebars etc. I'm glad I jumped on that one though because I have not seen one come up for sale since in my area. Now I have a mint Paperboy sitting in the arcade with the prices going wild.

On another title though - Lunar Lander, I spent $1800 plus shipping for a mint restored one after not being able to find any. Spent a ton to be able to get a good one but I have since had offers for up to $4k and will not sell.

These games with special controllers where the full experience can't be duplicated in Mame is where the money is.

Paperboy can be played on Mame and Xbox Live and the controllers on Xbox is better then the Arcade.I play 720 on the Xbox it plays better then my 720 downstairs in my game room.I don't think being able to play a game on Mame has anything to do with prices just my opinion.

I thought that I was the only one who thought that the XBLA version of Paperboy had a great feel to it! Handles (without handles) very well.

I don't see the price of the game going down, even if the controls are repro'd - which won't be cheap to buy.

It's a unique game and has wide appeal.

I have two of them - one working and the other under construction, plus some parts for a 3rd. I don't have a med res monitor for the second one. Getting hard to find those by themselves. I was thinking of trying an LCD in there - a lot of people have said good things about them - or putting in a 25 inch med res monitor.

Nice to see that more boards can be saved now, although I don't think anyone actually works on Paperboy boards that I know of. That's what we need next - someone to fix these boards...
