paperboy: adding screws to the front panel - or not?

it's been a long and winding road, but my paperboy restoration is finally coming to a close. however, i've reached a point where i need some input from you guys.

pics 1 shows the condition the control panel area was in when i got the game. as you can see, the control panel was screwed to the cabinet with two huuuuuge screws (i've circled the holes whre the screws go though in green).

pic 2 shows the condition of the control panel area as it is right now (security bar removed, all the holes filled, broken-off wood reconstructed, new vinyl applied, etc.). as you can see, i haven't drilled the two holes yet which are supposed to hold the control panel in place during gameplay, because i was wondering whether those screws are really necessary. on the inside, there are two hinges snapping into the panel. i'm asking myself whether this is good enough or if the gameplay is so intense that the control panel needs those two screws as an extra support

pro: no matter how hard you play, the panel will stay in place
con: add two giant screws (although black) to a nice clean front (marked with arrows on pic 2)

what do you guys think? add the screws or leave it as it is? btw, i've got the same problem with my championship sprint ;)

The screws belong there and you will find that if you don't use em, the cp will rock back and forth. Bondo up the holes, redrill em and use the same screw (with a smaller washer) that's used to hold the bezel/marquee retainer.

thx guys, that's what i expected - functionality before apperance :)

regarding the screws: have a look at the attached picture. on the left is one of the screws that was used to screw the panel to the cabinet's front, on the right is one of the marquee retainer screws. the latter seems a little bit "weak" to withstand hard gameplay.

what do you think? use the huuuuuge original screws (after repainting them black)?
