Panasonic TH-42PHW5 power on then shuts down. Yea I know...

[FONT=Verdana,Arial,Helvetica][FONT=Verdana,Arial,Helvetica]My son in law just showed up with a really nice looking plasma. Its a little old maybe 2004 or 5. When we plug it in we get a green light in the bottom left corner. Then a little blue flash on the screen. Then the green light turns to red and just flashes.

I have the operating instructions in hand but need the service manual. Would any of you guys know where I can download one? I have searched google but have only found corrupt files on that service manual.

You think this might be a bad power supply? Is this something that can be capped?

Yea I know its a tv... but maybe somebody can point me in the right direction.

I got a little more info on this tv. The previous owner said that he got bored with the tv and decided to hook up his computer to it. He said he had it all plugged in and when he turn on his computer the tv went out and never worked again.

It makes me wonder how he had the computer plugged into it. This thing has a serial terminal connection and a pc in connection. No way to get them backwards on two different plug styles d-sub 15p & d-sub 9p.

Well I found the flow charts, owners manual & service manual so I have some hope now! I put a link to the manuals on the front of my arcade modules site.

When I take the TV apart I will shoot some snaps & video if needed. I think I can fix this thing just from hanging around here.

Check the LED FTC
Unplug ac for 20 seconds
Plugin Ac,wait to see if you get any error codes
before pressing power,if there was a error in standby circuit
or missing any voltages for standby then you would startout
at plugin with a error, before pressing power switch.

If no errors yet?
Try from standby
Press Vol down and hold on Tv, then press Off-timer
on remote control to enter Self-check mode.
The idea here is to see if it tells you anything on the display
before it shutdowns.
If there is time before it shutdown.
Plus it leaves up a fixed display generated within the panel
to help in seeing info on the screen,to Troubleshoot video circuits
Incase your inputs signal are not there,or your on the wrong
input.

Count the Flashing Error
Then you can see DF Charts
Let us know what you find

Thank you for posting that info Ohm... Not sure what Check the LED FTC means?

Ok I went ahead and made some videos. This is what I have...
________

Test 1) Plug in and power on the set.

Green light is solid
Which then turns to the red.
---
Results: Two red blinks, with second blink staying solid, for three seconds, then repeat.

________

Test 2) Plug in and power on the set.

Green light is solid
Then we press volume down on set, then off timer on remote control.
---
Results: Green light flashes real fast, stops then flashes real fast again, then again
before going to blinking red as seen in first video.

Note: You can't see the green light flashing real fast in the video.
I asure you that it is in fact blinking real fast when trying to get into the test menu only.

Based on the flow charts and what I have in my videos. I have no where to start. It seems to give multi choice in the flow chart pdf.

Power LED Flashing timing chart
When an abnormality has occurred in the unit, the protection circuit operates and shuts off the power supply. The faulty area can be identified by the number of flashes of the Power LED at the front of the unit.

So my blinking time is twice which points to these below.

SC,SS or C-Board

Diagnostic Flow Charts
No Power
There are three states of "No Power" indication by the power LED:
1. The power LED does not light up.
2. The power LED is green at power up. It then turns red a few seconds later
and blinks on and off.
3. The power LED is red at power up and never changes state.

Which in turn leads me to...
Do F900
and F901
measure
correctly?

What the heck... I am not sure which is the correct flow chart to follow. Those above on page 29 or 30 or something else.

Thanks for your time!

Ok, Do the Led on the SS and SU boards
Light up???

Do the relays Click on then off when it shuts down??
Do the fans come on at all??

Do you have your VS voltage even for a second?
The Label on the Panel has the voltages..

Do you have the VA voltage for even a second at power up
if good it will come up to the correct voltage and then drop off
after relays click,if so odds are the power supply is good.
I would suspect the SC or SS

The idea is to troubleshoot it real good before ordering a parts.
Let us know what you have tryed
