Painting the inside of a cabinet.... Good or Bad Idea?

I'm in the process of restoring an Out Run, and I was toying with the idea of painting the inside of the cabinet. Is this a good or bad idea? Not that I plan on selling it, but does this hurt the value of the game at all? Let me know what you guys think.
Thanks,

Thanks,

I wouldn't (and don't) paint the inside of a cabinet if it wasn't painted originally, but I would clear coat it.

I don't paint the insides since I like to keep them original- right down to the correct hardware and connectors.

What I've done for cabs with staining inside is to use a 6" DeWalt random orbit sander that I modified by taking the dust collector off, and hooking up my Shop Vac so it draws through the holes in the sanding pad. Then you can sand the inside of the cab while the vac sucks up the sawdust and dirt, until the cab looks new inside.

I did that once. Waste of time unless it smells like pee or rodent excrement. And personally I won't even bother with that kind of project these days.

I don't see anything wrong with it, you might protect it from some moisture damage or something. I wouldn't get all crazy about it.

I've done it on several games. Gets rid of the damp smell if you have it. I laugh when people talk about hurting resale value...especially on an Outrun? The only damage would be if you did a crappy job. If you can sand it, I would, and then clear coat. If you can't, I'd at least clear coat it if you can because it does help with that damn smell.
