Painting radiator pipes...Mario Bros. green...anyone have a paint code?

Ok so I don't have the money to "finish" my basement so I'm trying to make it look as nice as possible. I've repainted the mortar and the wood above it and I plan on painting the floors with a nice exopy garage grade paint (what a pain to clean and etch 90 yr old concrete). Phet had actually mentioned in a post I made long ago that I should paint my radiator pipes Mario Bros. green. My wife said the same thing today so I think I'm going to go for it to add a cool effect. Two questions...

1.) does anyone have any suggestions for how to obtain a color as close as possible to Mario Bros. pipe green? Does anyone have a paint code?

2.) So obviously radiator pipes get hot...but not like appliance hot. what kind of paint should I use and from where should I get it? If I have to use a special paint I'm hoping I can still get it color matched. I'd like to do a glossy finish.

any suggestions/help would be appreciated. Pic below...

Thanks dudes!

I don't think they'd get hot enough that an oil based paint wouldn't work well. Think about it this way - a paint that's designed for exterior trim has to withstand some high temperatures, on a sunny day in 90deg+ heat.

Yea I figure the pipes get to about 150 degrees...no one has painted anything in their gameroom "mario bros. pipe green"? :)

I think that'll look awesome. I'd just color match to the closest you can find, or choose what looks best... not like anyone's gonna be picky (it's not exactly a "restore"). I don't think the Mario green paint would have been used for anything on a Mario cab, so a real paint code may be hard to find. Maybe Darin from Phoenix Arcade could give you the info on the green he used on his side art?

Sherwin Williams Custom Match:

BAC Colorant/OZ/32/64/128

G2-New Green/2/4/1/-
Y1-Yellow/-/26/1/-

Duration Home Semi-Gloss, Bright Yellow Base (Quart)

That's what I used... matched to the bezel. Hope this helps!

Haha. So cool with the brick wall!

I've got a radon pipe in the basement I've thought about doing the same thing to.

Thanks!

It was a really ugly dirty-white pipe... and now it looks like it belongs there :)

The OP should be sure the radiator temp will be OK for standard SW paints though. They can probably match the color with a specialty paint if needed.
