OK, I've got a Neo-Geo 'cabaret' (it's the wood-grain 2 slot with the 19" monitor).

The whole thing is nice and solid, if a little banged up. The woodgrain has seen better days, and I want to make it look nice. I've decided that I'm going to paint it blue (I'm going for a color similar to this South American MVS.

My question is: Can I safely just scuff the surface, patch it up with bondo and paint over the woodgrain stuff? Or do I have to strip the woodgrain off first?

Well, you "can" paint over it, but it is vinyl. Patching and painting over that...eh. Personally, I'd strip it to the wood, and do it right the first time.

Ahh. I thought that was melamine or something, but I just took a scraper and confirmed it's vinyl. Particle board underneath, so that's gonna be interesting. Perhaps I'll check harbor freight for the heated decal scraper that Ken Layton mentioned in another post on removing vinyl.

Perhaps I'll turn up my (up till now completely passive) search for a useable JAMMA cab. If I can get something in place before spring, then I can just get an adapter and swap the neo board into the JAMMA cab while I re-do the neo cab.

Thanks, guys!
