I was wondering why people paint the insides of their cabinets, like black or whatever color? Is is because the games were like that when it originally came out? Or is it because they think it looks nice and neat? I was thinking about doing it but I dont want to do it if the cab of my game was not meant to be painted in the inside.

I see it as for show off purposes which of course there is nothing wrong with that, I am going to paint the inside of most of my restores also. Just like when I pimp out the inside of my computer case, nobody sees it until someone ask, them BAM! lol

If I do it, it's because I had to fix the inside of the cabinet. Otherwise, I'll usually just spray the inside with Clear to seal the wood.

That sounds more like it.. What kind of clear do you use? Like what brand? And my cab is completely empty right now cuz Im still working on it. But it still has some ground wire attached to the inside of the cab. Do I have to remove that before I spray it..

I would in case you need to remove it later. I should also mention it depends on the type of wood, whether or not I do anything. A hard ply, probably won't do anything. A wood that is grainy, I'll seal.

I'm trying MinWax this time around, I'll see how it does.

I've painted some to help cover up damp smell. Even when I've bleached, etc. the crap out of a cab's bottom, I've still had smell. Also, when I've primed or painted cabs in the monitor area, I get spray that settles and speckles the bottom (masking off the monitor area of an empty cab seems stupid)...so I just take a few extra seconds and spray the bottom. If the bottom was spotless, then just using a clear varnish or poly or whatever would be fine, but I have yet to see a spotless bottom on a cab except for my Star Wars.

Some People paint the insides for many reasons..some already mentioned...when i was a tech in the arcade i worked at years ago..we would paint both inside and outside..and the reason for that is i live in Daytona and the arcade was on the beach..so for us painting the inside kept the humidty from swelling the cabs because we were soo close to the ocean...so every year we would inspect the cabs and see if we needed to seal them with paint..so there are many reasons for painting the inside...but it's a user thang :) tho a well painted interior keeps out moisture and actually helps keep it clean..to a certain extent :)

and if your a neat freak...it looks better :D

thats my story...and i'm stickin to it !

END OF LINE.
