This might sound dumb but has anyone tried painting buttons? I am in need of 2 purple nintendo buttons for my red tent but dont want to spend 12$ a piece for NOS. So I was thinking spray painting some other nintendo buttons I have flat white then using model paint the kind you would use for warhammer to paint them purple. I figure the purple button hardly gets used so it wouldn't take much wear. Any thoughts?

Sure, why not.

Take them apart if you can and scuff the plastic. Then use a plastic paint. If you can't take them apart, scuff what you can and then paint. I would not use sand paper to scuff as it will leave marks. Use a Scotch Bright pad, enough to dull the finish but not gouge it.

Yep, I have done it before. I needed to change the start buttons on my Frogger from red to white. I used some steel wool to lightly buff the buttons , then I washed and dried them. Next, I got some gloss white spray paint I had laying around the house.

I then added about 3 light coats and waited about a day to completely dry.

Yup, I did the exact same process to paint a yellow stick to purple for my TMNT. Except before I put the first coat of purple I used a primer.

Depending on your humidity level I would check it every day to make sure it is fully dry and non-tacky.

I've done it a few times. I finish them off with a coat of clear acrylic spray paint.
