I need a bit of help with some painting. Been reading a lot here about prep work, primer, paint etc and seeing i have done painting before, I'm a little baffled at the problem I am currently having.

Basically I am restoring a Neo Geo 2 slot using Latex paint as Oil is no longer available and a good foam roller for smooth surfaces. The paint is going down nicely but doesn't matter how many coats I apply or direction used, when dry, I always see some slight shade of roller marks. It's driving me absolutely nuts and I don't know what else to do. This is only on the sides of the cabinet. The front is absolutely perfect so I'm a little confused on what I'm doing wrong or should be doing to avoid this.

Anyone have any advice?

Thanks guys.

Ok sense your rolling it then try lexol... It's an orange plastic bottle you mix together and takes away roller marks.. Pm me if you need a pic..

Otherwise try spraying

yea what kyle said!

they sell an additive that makes the paint flow/flatten out a bit better at the big box stores (wallyworld might have it also)

Thanks guys. Not sure if it's sold up here in Canada but will look into it.

Can temperature have something to do with it? It's been really warm here lately and the garage being made out of wood is quite warm. Maybe the paint is drying too quickly and I'm better off waiting for a cooler day?

Temp can definitely have an effect especially hot weather.
If it is real hot the paint surface will dry too fast and leave texture and roller marks quicker.

I had good results using floetrol as well as using the lightest touch possible, not putting pressure on the roller just letting it glide over the surface as light as i could touch it.

Thanks again guys. I was leaning towards temperature because I couldn't think of anything else. The texture I actually don't mind. It came out looking like the texture vinyl look which I really like but the roller marks are just annoying, so I think I'll park the project for now and resume when temperatures come back down to a reasonable level.

In the meantime, I'll look for the additive but I dont think any of the big box stores carry it up here.

Alright, was able to get my hands on the paint conditioner but have to sand the texture off the one side, it's worst than I thought. What grit do you guys recommend to remove it until its smooth but yet not sanding down to the primer? I have about 5 coats on one side alone.

Thanks guys :)

I used 220 grit to get texture off...then went over it with 400 for a final touch before sanding...works well for me..
