I've got a couple of cabarets I want to work over eventually and using paint stripper would save me a lot of time doing the sides, is this a bad idea? Do I risk moisture damage with stripper? The cabs in question are made of plywood if that factors in.

A lot of the paint was pulled off when someone ripped off most of the side art and the only way they're ever going to look right is to sand them down to bare wood and start over.

I would recommend Citristrip. I've used it lots with excellent results. No weird swelling or anything.

Also it smells nice, but you should still use in a well ventilated area.

I used it on a few cabs... most notably my Scramble, which is plywood.

To me, paint stripper makes more work. You need to make sure that it doesn't get into nooks and crannies, and I don't like having to clean up all the goop that results. I'd rather start with 80 grit quality (not Harbor Freight) paper, like 3M, etc.. and strip it that way. Then another pass with 120. Fill, prime, etc..sand with progressively finer.

I use this method as well... however my Scramble had about 4 layers of awful paint on it and it gummed up my sandpaper every time I tried.

Sometimes you just have to strip.

I have used paint stripper twice and never had any problems. I also give the games a quick rinse after ward and then a rapid wipe down. Sounds like a bad idea, but I had no problem. Both were plywood construction. I wouldn't try it with other types.

I have never had any problems with this.. The cabinets were completely empty.... your results may vary.
