Paint removal from legs

Is there a safe way to remove paint from the legs without hurting the chrome.

Yup, also Acetone.

I use very fine steel wool. # 0000. Hint: they're not actually chrome, so steel wool won't hurt them, it only helps to bring out the shine. This method also removes surface rust.

sounds wacky but I've had great success with oven cleaner.

There's probably a reason why they got painted. They were possibly rusted, then wire-wheeled/scratched, then painted. So it is still a crap shoot.

Even if they are shitty, and can't be saved I can repaint them or have them powder coated. It is the worst paint job I have ever seen.

New/good condition legs are cheap, that's sometimes the easiest route.
