I had an oil-based paint color-matched and tinted at my local hardware store a few months back. Went to grab the paint, and noted that on the can it says that it is an exterior oil-based enamel for metal. Will this be a problem if I try to use it on MDF or wood? Most oil-based paints I use can be used on wood and metal. Is this a different chemical composition that won't stick to wood, or won't cure or something? Help.

Anyone know? Anyone at all? I painted a test swatch of this paint on an old SPF 2x4 and it seems to be curing fine, but will it peel off over time? Anyone have any idea whatsoever?

Phet,

What paint brand and type. I will ask our parts painter and powder coating guy.

Tru Value, exterior oil-enamel for Metal. I just asked the hardware guy over the phone to mix me up a custom quart of oil-based paint. This must be the only oil tint base they had at the store, what with the oil paint phase out.

Phet,

Paint guy says it shoud not be a problem. He said the weather can affect it if its wet or humid out. He said just make sure your test you did on the scrap wood you are using dries nice and hard. He said if it does that it should be good for the long run. This is his opinion of course and he is not there to see exactly the application. Just thought I would pass it on.

Hope it helps

Thanks Toby. It is also going over another oil-based enamel, which itself is over an oil-based primer, so it really isn't touching the bare wood. Thanks again, you have made me happier than Frizzy was when he was hired as assistant house manager and shower monitor for the local Boy's Home.

Hahahah, that should be ok then. Hey still working on the CP stuff so I will let you know. Kinda busy right now.

That's OK, we still need your address to send one to you to work from. PM me that info when you think you'll have time.
