So what are your feelings on painting the inside of a cab if doing a total restoration?

I like to keep things as original as possible but if you are basically rebuilding the whole game why not make the inside look good too?

I had a MsPac that I was restoring that had lots of nasty stains inside of it. I painted it black and it came out pretty good.

Unless the cab looks like hell inside I'd just clean it up the best you can.

meh, I say you gotta draw the line somewhere and let some stuff slide. I wouldn't paint anything beyond what a player will see. Only time I would make an exception is if you need to conceal a cat-smell or some other odor, in which case, paint away.

Maybe I'm wrong (because I really have no idea) but wouldn't certain paints and fumes begin to warm up and somehow corrode things on the board? no? hmmm. just a thought.

It wouldn't be accurate for a restoration, but if there are some stains or smells you just can't fix, painting over them might be a good option. I haven't ever had to do that. Most games are plywood and can be washed/bleached, or the particle board cabinets like Ataris usually have laminated sides which clean up, and on the bottom (plywood) needs washed/bleached.

I just vacuum and wash them out with a damp rag and dry it when they are plywood. The only exception for me is I will paint the inside of a Nintendo cab where it's already black. To each his own so if you want to paint, if not don't. - Barry

the jamma game I'm working on I just left the inside the way it was. I did a shabby job of cleaning it, too. I may have to go back in and do some more cleaning just to make myself feel better. Hell, leave it.

Someone posted that they 'clean' the insides by sanding. Never tried it, but it seems like a good way to go.

i never have, but if i ever do have to paint the inside of a cab, you can bet your last dollar it will be white. Cabs are too darned dark inside to work on already, and it'd be even worse if you painted em black.
