I'm new to this hobby and I have what may be a stupid question, but...

I am restoring a PacMania machine that has a raised marquee that has a couple of minor scratches on it allowing clear light to show through where the paint is scratched off.

I figured that I just needed to touch it up with a little paint on the back side, but it appears that the artwork painted on the backside is covered completely with a gray/silver paint.

Is there a process involved in repairing this correctly? Am I going to screw this up by dabbing a little blue paint on the backside where it has been scratched off?

Marquees and backglasses are painted with translucent ink so the ink will let some of the light through and lightup the entire area. If you put regular paint on the back and light it up it is going to look black from the front.

The only way to repair chips is to try to somehow get an exact match in color AND translucency of the paint which is damn near impossible (for me at least!). There are some pages on Marvin's 3M site somewhere talking about doing this to pinball backglass but I would recommend leaving it as is or trying to find another one in better shape.
