Hopefully these aren't the questions everyone asks (as I did google for the answers!).

My new Cabaret pacman works great. Before installing the high score save multi kit, I noticed that it was

1) Always in free play
2) The test switch didn't do anything

I've now installed the high score save multi kit and, well, #1 and #2 above haven't changed. I didn't expect it to change, but I'm giving you the background.

I'm trying to figure out why the test switch doesn't work. I see from the schematics that the main PCB provides 5v and the this gets grounded at appropriate times. Using my DMM, I can see the 5v go to 0v when I switch the switch.

FWIW, I can see the 5v -> 0v transition on the tilt switch and the coin up switches.

However, none of them seem to do anything. Does being in free play prevent the coin up from working? Still, that doesn't explain why test mode isn't working.

Thoughts appreciated! I'll continue digging into it.

Thought I'd share a little more...

I see that the test switch ends up going into 8H which is a buffer. Pin 2 in input, pin 3 is output. I watched to see if they follow each other, but then I realized that the output goes onto the bus (DB4) and this is multiplexed with other outputs. Result: I can only check pin 2's output when the enable on 1 was is low.

Not easily done with a probe or dmm, I'll need to pull out my scope. Wondering if I've missed something obvious and this is going into the weeds.

Haven't pulled out the scope yet, but I wanted to share the switch schematic. I found it interesting that both "test" and "tilt" are connected to the same PCB connector (K). This appears to mean that test and tilt are exactly the same thing. However, the software must say "a short pulldown to ground" is tilt and a long one is test. Note that the RED goes to ground.

Here's the section from the schematic.

I'd be interested to hear the results of someone with a Pac doing a test where they manually hold down tilt and see if it goes into test.

If anyone has thoughts on my test switch not working, I'd appreciate your insights.

Yes, holding the tilt switch is the same as toggling the test switch.
No, the coin up switches don't do anything when in free play mode.

I know this is an old post but,...
I have the same thing happening with mine, the tilt switch does nothing, the service switch does work but the tilt switch does nothing?
Ever figure out why??

The software resets when the switch reads closed
Self test stays on the "results" page until the switch reads open.

Didn't realize I never followed up here. From my site

"To my surprise, and disappointment, they confirmed that the kit removes both the diagnostic functionality and the slam tilt functionality! "
