Hey guys,

Sorry if this has been posted before but i was wondering how i can get a monitor for my pacman upright with all the "circuits and connections" on it. I know how to get monitors like: http://www.betson.com/products/parts/JCM-44-4519-02 and such. but i wanted one that i can just swap in and out and plug everything right in...Since i dont know too much about circuitry. I know twobits had one but theirs are no longer available.
Thanks!

There is no monitor that will be 100% plug and play unless you pick up a used one like was already in there. Does your cabinet have a non-working monitor? It would best to just have it fixed.

otherwise, if you have to have a new one, the easiest would be one of the 19" Vision Pro 2 monitors from Arcadeshop (5th one down at this link):

http://www.arcadeshop.com/parts.htm#Monitors

The video connector will plug right in, but you'll have to adapt the power connector.

And I hope you have all the mounting bracketry necessary for it to mount into the Pac cab...

First you have to identify which kind you have. Look at the board attached to the back of the monitor and compare it to the pics you'll find here:

http://therealbobroberts.net/monitor.html

Odds are that it is one of the first three, but it's not uncommon to find a different model was put in over the years. If you can't identify it, take a picture of it and post it here. Once you know what kind you have, you could post in the Wanted section asking for a working chassis. Then you'd just have to swap it with your bad one.

And there are several people here that can do the repair for you cheaper than what a new monitor would cost....

hope this helps...

Yep, K4600.

You can contact this guy if you want to try repair. Tell him how inexperienced you are so he can help you in removing the parts you'd need to send if you want to go that route...

Now if i get a new monitor, how hard will it be to put my existing chassis on it?

Are you talking about the chassis (the electronics part that connects to the monitor tube), or the mounting frame? If you mean the chassis, it's not going to happen. If you mean the mounting frame, it depends on what monitor you buy.

The chassis is just the board that attached to the tube. If you buy a new monitor, it will come with it's own chassis already. All you will need to do is remove the old monitor, transfer two bracket mounts and the bezel plastic, adapt the power connector, and put it back in...

Yes the chassis. Why wont it happen? Don't people replace monitors all the time? lol i know they dont keep the same one for 30 years.

Because a: as mode said, a new monitor will come with its own chassis. and b: you aren't going to just luck into finding a tube that is compatible with the chassis you have.

Ok, let me clarify a few points.

1) Yes, if you can buy a working K4600 chassis, you can remove the non-working one from your tube and frame, and install the working one and it will work. However, you have to know how to do that, and the 4600 is one of the more complicated versions for the inexperienced to mess with.

2) If you feel competent to remove the non-working chassis, it would probably be better to just send it to Chad at Arcadecup and let him repair it. Once you get it back and reinstall it, it should last many years with no problems. While you may find one cheaper on EBay than it would be to have yours repaired, you may be buying a used as-is chassis that may develop problems soon. If you can find a used rebuilt one, then that's good, too.

3) If you can't remove or reinstall the K4600 chassis yourself, then you either need to find someone who can, or buy a complete working monitor and install that instead. You don't have to buy a new one unless you want to. A used monitor will also work, but make sure that it has been rebuilt recently, or you may have the same problem soon after installing it. And it doesn't have to be a K4600 unless you plan to use the same tube/yoke. You can buy any 19" CGA (15kHz - standard-resolution) monitor....

Lets add that you need to discharge that monitor before you try to remove the chassis from it. I wouldn't touch it till you have a full understanding of what your doing. You could take one hell of a zap if your not careful.

Yes. Even with the game unplugged and no power to it, the monitor can still zap you...
