We've had our pacman cabinet (with the ms. pacman and speed chip in it) for about 3 years without issue. This past week turning it on, we saw a screen full of characters right at start up, but didn't repeat it. Today it booted up the same way, then the walls of the maze were blue, but everything else was fine. Restarted it and got the same characters but everything went back to normal. Turned it off during the kid's nap and turned it back on, came to a black screen, rebooted it again, normal.

Any suggestions?

I'll check, are there any tell-tale signs to look for? Since its only on power-up and not every time, I'm trying to figure out how to even trouble shoot. Are the replacement connectors available?

Sorry for so many questions. So far we've lucked out on the the technical side of these machines.

Are stencil sets available to redo the side art? I'd rather not do a decal, rather paint it on.

First check and clean the fuse holders. They are a common problem point in the Pac Man game cabinets. If they are corroded or spread out and making poor contact then replace them. You can get new ones at Radio Shack.

Next check the edge connector for burnt contacts. If that's the case then the edge connector will need to be repaired on the board and the edge connector on the harness will need replacing.

Its probably just a loose microchip just push on all the chips in the sockets. You can push hard it wont break them, try turning it back on it will probable be fine again.
